Product Overview

The Omron D4NL-4CFG-B is the 2NC dual-channel variant of the D4NL guard-lock family. The "-4C" contact code gives two normally-closed safety contacts plus a normally-open monitor contact for the lock state, which is the standard wiring for a Category 3 / PL d safety circuit (one NC per channel of the safety relay or safety PLC).

Locking is identical to the -1AFG-B variant: spring-lock with 24 VDC solenoid release. On power loss the door stays locked, which is the required behaviour for guarding a hazard that has stored energy (flywheel, hydraulic accumulator, capacitor bank, etc.). Holding force is again 1,300 N minimum.

The 2NC contact arrangement means you do not need to add an external contact block to build a dual-channel circuit — the two NCs go straight into the two inputs of the safety relay, one per channel. This simplifies wiring, reduces terminations, and makes the safety circuit easier to validate at sign-off.

Mounting is the standard D4NL footprint: panel cut-out, four fixing screws, head rotatable 360° in 90° steps, M20 conduit, IP67 sealing. The matching operation key is ordered separately and must be specified for the correct door swing direction.

Key Features

  • 2NC dual-channel safety contacts (plus 1NO lock monitor)
  • Solenoid release, spring lock — fail-safe on power loss
  • 1,300 N minimum holding force
  • 24 VDC solenoid
  • Head rotatable 360° in 90° steps
  • M20 conduit, IP67 sealed
  • Snap-action slow-make contacts, direct opening on NCs
  • Standard D4NL mounting footprint — direct replacement for older D4DL units
  • SKU: D4NL-4CFG-B
  • Series: D4NL
  • Voltage: 24 VDC

Best-Fit Applications

  • Category 3 / PL d guard circuits on robotic cells
  • Press and shear guards with stored mechanical energy
  • Hydraulic / pneumatic machine enclosures with residual pressure
  • Large sliding gates on automated warehousing equipment
  • Direct replacement for legacy D4DL guard-lock switches

Buying Checklist

  • Confirm you need 2NC (this part) and not 1NC/1NO + 1NC/1NO (the -1AFG-B variant)
  • Verify the head direction in the suffix — K1 / K2 / K3 / K4 — matches your door swing
  • Order the matching operation key at the same time; keys are directional and not interchangeable
  • Size your 24 VDC supply for solenoid inrush (≈ 200 mA per switch, plus hold current)
  • Plan a manual-release key if the cell has to be entered during a power loss

FAQ for D4NL-4CFG-B

What is the difference between the -4CFG-B and the -1AFG-B?
The -1AFG-B has 1NC/1NO + 1NC/1NO contacts (4 contacts total, two per block). The -4CFG-B has 2NC + 1NO (3 contacts, dual-channel in a single block). The -4C version is the typical choice for a Category 3 / PL d circuit driven from a two-channel safety relay.
Is 1,300 N enough holding force?
Yes. EN ISO 14119 expects 1,000 N for most Category 3 circuits. 1,300 N is comfortably above that, and is the Omron catalogue figure for the entire D4NL family.
Can I retrofit this to an older D4DL installation?
Generally yes — the panel cut-out and mounting centres are close enough that most D4DL cut-outs accept the D4NL with no rework. You will need a new operation key, since the D4DL and D4NL keys are not interchangeable.
