Product Overview

The Omron H7EC-N is a self-powered totalizer in the H7E family. The "-N" suffix denotes the no-voltage input model: each count pulse is a contact closure or open-collector pull-down, with no external supply required for the input. An internal lithium battery powers the LCD, so the counter continues to display and accumulate counts even with the wiring completely disconnected.

The H7EC is 8-digit (so it counts up to 99,999,999), which makes it a true totalizer — once installed, you can leave it counting for years without worrying about overflow. The LCD is 8 mm tall, black on light-grey, and readable from a couple of metres. The front-panel key-protect switch disables the reset key to prevent accidental zeroing.

Typical applications: parts-counting on small bench-top assembly stations, events counting on portable test rigs, cycle counting on machines that have no control panel, odometer-style length or revolution counters on legacy equipment.

The 48×48 mm panel cut-out matches the standard Omron H7E / H7C form factor, so it drops into an existing H7E panel cut-out as a direct replacement. Operating temperature is -10 °C to +55 °C, and the front face is IP54 (splash-proof).

Key Features

  • 8-digit LCD — counts to 99,999,999 without overflow
  • Self-powered (internal lithium battery) — works with no external supply
  • No-voltage input — counts contact closures and open-collector pull-downs
  • 48×48 mm panel cut-out, matches standard H7E / H7C footprint
  • Front-panel reset key with key-protect switch
  • Splash-proof front face (IP54)
  • Compact depth — fits shallow panels
  • Operating temperature -10 °C to +55 °C
  • SKU: H7EC-N
  • Series: H7EC (H7E family)

Best-Fit Applications

  • Bench-top parts counting in manual assembly stations
  • Cycle counting on legacy machines with no PLC
  • Event counting on portable test rigs
  • Odometer-style length / revolution counters
  • Totalizer for vending, dispensing, or batch-counting equipment

Buying Checklist

  • Confirm you need the no-voltage input (H7EC-N) and not the DC-voltage input (H7EC-NV) variant
  • If you need a backlit display, order the H7EC-NV-H or H7EC-NFV backlit variants
  • For replacement batteries, check the Omron datasheet — most H7EC-N batteries are not user-replaceable
  • If you need an output contact when a count is reached, this is the wrong model — use the H7CX series instead
  • Verify the panel cut-out is 45×45 mm — the H7E series is smaller than the older H7C series

FAQ for H7EC-N

Does the H7EC-N need external power?
No. The "-N" suffix means the unit is fully self-powered from an internal lithium battery. The count input is a dry contact or open-collector pull-down — applying external voltage to the input terminals will damage the unit.
How long does the battery last?
Omron's catalogue figure is ≥ 7 years at 25 °C continuous operation. The battery is not user-replaceable on the H7EC-N; when it eventually dies, the unit is replaced. The H7EC-NV and H7EC-NFV variants have user-replaceable batteries.
What's the difference between H7EC-N and H7EC-NV?
The H7EC-N is a no-voltage-input, self-powered totalizer. The H7EC-NV accepts a DC voltage input (PNP or NPN) and also has a backlight option (-NV-H, -NFV-H). Choose the H7EC-N when you need the simplest possible totalizer with no external wiring beyond a contact closure.
Can I reset the count remotely?
No — the H7EC-N has a front-panel reset key only. For remote reset, choose the H7EC-NV-300 (DC-voltage input) variant with a reset terminal, or step up to the H7CX counter/timer family which has both remote reset and output contacts.
