Product Overview

The Omron R88M-1M20030T-BS2 is a 200 W, 100 VAC, 3000 rpm member of the 1S-series servo motor family, with a 24 VDC electromagnetic brake. The "1M" prefix in the R88M ordering code denotes the 100 V class; "20030" is 200 W at 3000 rpm; "T" is the standard (non-oil-seal) shaft; "-BS2" denotes smooth shaft with electromagnetic brake.

The 1S family is Omron's compact, low-cost servo motor line, designed to pair with the 1S-series R88D-1SN and R88D-1M drives. It uses a 17-bit incremental serial encoder (4,096 counts / rev with ×4 quadrature in the drive), and the motor body carries a keyway and a 24 VDC brake that engages when the brake power is removed.

The brake version (-BS2) is intended for vertical-axis and Z-axis applications where the load must be held in place when the servo is de-energised. The brake is spring-applied, electrically released — fail-safe on power loss. Brake power is 24 VDC, drawn from a dedicated brake-release supply on the drive (do not power the brake from the logic supply).

The 100 V class is common in Japan and parts of Asia, and on small 100 V control transformers in industrial panels. In Europe and the Americas, the 200 V class is the standard.

Key Features

  • 200 W continuous output at 3000 rpm rated speed
  • 100 VAC class (100–115 VAC)
  • 17-bit incremental serial encoder
  • 24 VDC spring-applied electromagnetic brake (engages on power-off)
  • Smooth shaft (no keyway) for flexible coupling
  • 50 mm frame (square flange)
  • IP65 body, IP67 shaft seal
  • Insulation class B
  • SKU: R88M-1M20030T-BS2
  • Series: 1S (R88M-1M)
  • Voltage: 100 VAC
  • I/O: 200 I/O

Best-Fit Applications

  • Vertical-axis and Z-axis applications where load holding is required
  • Compact 200 W pick-and-place axes
  • Small indexing tables and rotary fixtures
  • Labelling and dispensing heads on packaging lines
  • Bench-top laboratory automation

Buying Checklist

  • Match the motor voltage class (100 V) to the drive voltage class (R88D-1M family) — never mix 100 V and 200 V
  • Confirm the brake voltage (24 VDC) matches your brake-release supply
  • For keyed shaft, choose the -BS2K variant; for oil seal, add the O-seal suffix
  • Use a flexible coupling rated for the 8 mm shaft and your side-load
  • Plan a brake-release delay in the drive's safety logic — sudden brake release under load can cause a position error

FAQ for R88M-1M20030T-BS2

What drive pairs with this motor?
The R88D-1M20030T-S2 or R88D-1M20030T-BS2 — the matching 100 V 200 W drive in the MECHATROLINK-II or EtherCAT family. Always match the voltage class.
Why does this motor have a brake?
For vertical-axis / Z-axis applications where the load has to be held in place when the servo is de-energised. The brake is spring-applied and electrically released at 24 VDC — so if power is lost, the brake engages and the load is held.
Is the brake powered from the drive or from a separate supply?
The 1S drives provide a dedicated 24 VDC brake output. You do not need a separate brake supply; just route the drive's brake terminals to the motor's brake wires. The drive controls brake release / engage in sync with servo enable.
