Product Overview

The Omron CJ1W-ID201 is the small-size DC input unit for the CJ-series PLC family. It drops onto one slot of a CJ1M, CJ2M, or CJ-expansion rack and gives eight 24 VDC digital inputs wired through a removable screw-terminal block. Each input has its own common, so eight different ground sources can be connected without tying commons together, and all eight points can be ON at once without derating.

Where it fits

Pick the CJ1W-ID201 when the panel has just a few extra 24 V inputs to land and you do not want to use a 16-point or 32-point card. It is the lowest-cost way to add CJ-side inputs and a common pick on small retrofit builds, bench-test rigs, and sub-panels that pull signal-wire-side only.

The ID2xx family at a glance

The trailing digits carry the family meaning: ID2xx is DC 24 V input, IA1xx / IA2xx is AC input. The middle digit is the point count -- 0 = 8 points, 1 = 16 points, 3 = 32 points, 6 = 64 points. So ID201 = 8-pt DC, ID211 = 16-pt DC, ID231 = 32-pt DC, ID261 = 64-pt DC. The high-speed sibling with 15 us response is the ID212 (16-pt) or ID232 (32-pt) -- pick those when the application is counting or registering fast pulses. For AC-input cabinets (a 100 V or 200 V proximity or limit switch), pick the IA111 or IA201 instead.

Before ordering

Confirm the CJ rack has a free I/O slot. The terminal block is removable, so wiring up the block before seating the unit on the rack is fine. Set the input response time (0 to 32 ms in 1 ms steps) in the CPU's I/O setup so noise on long cable runs does not cause false triggers.

Key Features

  • CJ1W CJ-bus digital input unit; one slot on CJ1M / CJ2M / CJ1W-IC10x racks
  • 8 independent DC inputs, each with its own common
  • Rated DC 12 to 24 V (operating DC 10.2 to 26.4 V)
  • 10 mA typical per input at DC 24 V; 2.4 kOhm input impedance
  • ON at 8.8 V / 3 mA minimum; OFF at 3 V / 1 mA maximum
  • 0 to 32 ms selectable response time; 20 us ON / 400 us OFF floor
  • Removable M3 screw-terminal block for bench pre-wiring
  • 100% simultaneous ON across all 8 points
  • 80 mA max internal draw from the CJ backplane
  • 100 g typical body, 110 g max
  • Compatible with NPN (sinking) and PNP (sourcing) field devices -- polarity is set by the common wiring
  • SKU: CJ1W-ID201
  • Series: CJ1W-ID201
  • Voltage: 12 TO 24 V
  • I/O: 8 I/O

Best-Fit Applications

  • Adding a handful of extra 24 V inputs to a CJ1M / CJ2M rack that ran out of CPU points
  • Bench-test rigs and sub-panel builds that need only a few inputs without paying for a 16-point card
  • Low-voltage DC signal pickup from proximity sensors, photo eyes, and limit switches in a panel
  • Spare-channel card kept on the shelf for cabinet expansion without touching the existing wiring

Buying Checklist

  • Pick CJ1W-ID201 for 8 DC inputs on a small CJ rack with removable screw-terminal wiring.
  • Pick CJ1W-ID211 for 16 points instead when you need more density on the same slot count.
  • Pick CJ1W-ID212 for 16 high-speed inputs (15 us) on a fast counter or registration stop circuit.
  • Pick CJ1W-IA111 for AC 100-120 V inputs or CJ1W-IA201 for AC 200-240 V inputs.
  • Confirm the CJ rack has a free I/O slot before ordering -- the ID201 fits one slot, not two.

FAQ for CJ1W-ID201

Is CJ1W-ID201 PNP or NPN?
Either. The ID201 has eight independent commons, so each input can be wired for PNP (sourcing) or NPN (sinking) by how the common is tied. Most modern 24 V panels wire the inputs as NPN (sink to the PLC) by tying the common to +24 V, but PNP (source to the PLC) by tying the common to 0 V works the same way without any DIP switch.
How fast is the CJ1W-ID201 input response?
Default 8.0 ms in both directions, selectable from 0 to 32 ms in 1 ms steps from the CPU's I/O setup. With the response set to 0 ms, the ON time drops to a floor of about 20 us and the OFF time to about 400 us. For high-speed counting where every microsecond matters, step up to the CJ1W-ID212 (16-pt, 15 us ON / 15 us OFF) or the CJ1W-CT021 high-speed counter unit.
How much current does the CJ1W-ID201 draw from the CJ backplane?
About 80 mA maximum from the 5 VDC bus on the CJ rack, just to run the input logic. The actual sensor current is sourced from the field supply, not the backplane, so the ID201 does not draw 24 VDC from the rack. Total rack budget is the sum of all module draws -- 80 mA here, plus what the rest of the rack uses.
