Product Overview

The Omron CJ1W-NC413 is a 4-axis Position Control Unit (PCU) for CJ-series PLCs. Pick it when the cabinet needs pulse-train motor control for up to four axes from one CJ slot, with the program running on the CJ CPU and the axis sequences handled by the PCU.

Each axis gets an open-collector pulse output at 24 VDC, with a maximum pulse rate of 500 kpps (1 pps step). The PCU holds 100 sequences per axis (target position, speed, accel / decel, dwell), and three completion modes (interrupt, automatic, continue). Inputs are 24 VDC at 4.1 mA per point (origin, limit, home, manual pulsar, etc.); outputs are 24 VDC at 16 mA (pulse) / 30 mA (with limit resistor). The 31 x 90 x 65 mm slim CJ CPU-bus body sits anywhere on the CJ CPU or expansion rack.

The front face carries the NC413 label, four axis LEDs (X, Y, Z, U), RUN / ERC / ERH status LEDs, the MACH No. rotary for the unit number, and two 40-pin Fujitsu-compatible headers (CN1 + CN2) for the motor / encoder wiring. CX-Position (an add-on under CX-One) is the commissioning tool, and the CJ CPU exchanges position and status data with the PCU via IORD / IOWR.

Note: the NC413 is open-collector only. For RS-422 line-driver output on the same 4-axis form factor, use the CJ1W-NC433. For 1-axis / 2-axis pulse builds use the CJ1W-NC113 / CJ1W-NC233. For full G-language linear / circular interpolation, move to the CJ1W-MCH71 MECHATROLINK motion controller.

Key Features

  • CJ-series Special I/O 4-axis Position Control Unit (PCU) with pulse-train open-collector output

  • 100 sequences (position + speed + accel / decel + dwell) per axis
  • Three completion modes: interrupt, automatic, continue
  • 24 VDC digital inputs at 4.1 mA per point (origin, limit, home, manual pulsar)
  • X / Y / Z / U axis labels on the front face; MACH No. rotary for PCU slot address 00 to 95
  • Two Fujitsu-compatible 40-pin headers (CN1 + CN2) on the front face for axis wiring
  • IORD / IOWR high-speed data exchange with the CJ CPU
  • 31 x 90 x 65 mm slim CJ CPU-bus body; powered from the CJ backplane
  • Trapezoidal and S-curve accel / decel per sequence
  • Backplane-only mount; CE / cULus Class 1 Div 2 / NK / Lloyd
  • Setup with CX-Position (add-on under CX-One) and CX-Programmer
  • SKU: CJ1W-NC413
  • Series: CJ-series Special I/O Position Control Unit
  • I/O: 1 I/O

Best-Fit Applications

  • Multi-axis stepper / pulse-driven servo control on a single CJ slot (up to four axes, open-collector)
  • Indexing tables and rotary cutting machines where each axis runs a stored position + speed profile
  • Packaging and labelling lines where X / Y / Z / U coordinated moves run from stored sequences
  • Replacement of older C200H-NC211 position control on CJ-series panel builds
  • Three-axis pick-and-place where the fourth axis is reserved for a future upgrade
  • Pair with a CJ1W-CT021 high-speed counter on the same CJ rack for closed-loop position verification

Buying Checklist

  • Pick the CJ1W-NC413 when the CJ panel needs a 4-axis open-collector pulse position control unit in one slot.
  • Pick the CJ1W-NC433 instead for a 4-axis RS-422 line-driver output (longer cable runs, higher noise immunity)
  • Pick the CJ1W-NC113 / CJ1W-NC233 when the cabinet needs just 1 or 2 axes (smaller unit number per rack)
  • Pick the CJ1W-NCF71 for a 4-axis MECHATROLINK-II motion controller (digital serial bus, not pulse-train)
  • Pick the CJ1W-MCH71 for full G-language linear / circular interpolation (motion controller, not pulse PCU)
  • Confirm CX-Position (CX-One add-on) and CX-Programmer are on the engineering PC -- sequence data is set up in CX-Position first

FAQ for CJ1W-NC413

What is the difference between CJ1W-NC413 and CJ1W-NC433?
Output type. The NC413 is open-collector pulse-train output (for typical stepper drives and pulse-input servos). The NC433 is RS-422 line-driver output (for longer cable runs, differential noise rejection, and high-speed pulse demanding servos). Both are 4-axis pulse PCUs in the slim CJ CPU-bus form factor. The 2-axis sibling is the CJ1W-NC233 (open-collector) / CJ1W-NC253 (line driver).
Does the CJ1W-NC413 do linear or circular interpolation?
No. The NC413 holds stored sequences and runs them as single-axis moves; it does not do linear (2-axis) or circular interpolation. For interpolation, step up to the CJ1W-MCH71 (MECHATROLINK-II motion controller with G-language programming) or use the CJ1W-NCF71 MECHATROLINK motion controller with a compatible MECHATROLINK servo.
How is the CJ1W-NC413 configured?
CX-Position (a CX-One add-on) is the standalone commissioning tool for the position sequences and axis parameters. CX-Programmer is the ladder / ST programming tool for the CJ CPU; the NC413 exchanges data with the CPU via IORD (read) and IOWR (write) special I/O instructions. A simple manual can be edited in CX-Programmer without CX-Position.
What is the maximum pulse frequency on the CJ1W-NC413?
500 kpps per axis. The rate is set per sequence in 1 pps steps. With a 500 kpps top speed the PCU settles within 2 ms of receiving the start command from the CJ CPU via the IOWR instruction. For higher pulse rates (1 Mpps), use the CJ1W-NC433 line-driver variant.
