Product Overview
The Omron CJ1W-PRM21 is the CJ-series PROFIBUS-DP master unit. Pick it when a CJ or CS PLC needs to act as the class-1 master on a PROFIBUS-DP network to read / write distributed I/O, VFDs, encoder blocks, or third-party PROFIBUS slaves.
The unit supports both the classic PROFIBUS-DP class-1 cyclic data exchange and DP-V1 acyclic services (process data, parameter read / write, alarm handling). All standard PROFIBUS baud rates from 9.6 kbit/s up to 12 Mbit/s are selectable from the CX-PROFIBUS configurator, per EN50170 Volume 2 / IEC 61158. The PROFIBUS address is also set from the configurator (0-125), up to 125 slaves per bus. Max 7,168 words of I/O across the network and 244 bytes in / 244 bytes out per slave.
The 25-word control and status area in the CJ CPU memory handles the standard PROFIBUS services -- Data_Exchange, Slave_Diag, Set_PRM, Chk_Cfg, and Global_Control (Sync / Unsync / Freeze / Unfreeze / Clear). The CJ1W-PRM21 pulls 400 mA at 5 VDC from the CJ backplane, sits in one CJ CPU-bus slot, and weighs 100 g in a 90 x 65 x 31 mm slim body.
The front face carries PROFIBUS Address rotary (UNIT No. 0-F), seven status LEDs (RUN / ERC / PRM / COMM / ERH / BST / BF), and a D-Sub 9-pin PROFIBUS connector labelled BUS. CX-PROFIBUS (an add-on under CX-One) plus the Generic DTM is the configuration tool for both the master and for any GSD-file based third-party slave. Simple backup and interrupt notification are not supported on the PRM.
The matching CS-series counterpart is CS1W-PRM21 for CS1 / CS1D racks. CJ1W-PRM21 is manufactured by Omron Manufacturing B.V. in the Netherlands. 0 to +50 °C operating.
