Product Overview
The CS1W-CN223 is a 2-metre I/O connecting cable in the CS1W-CN@@3 family, used to link a CS1 CPU rack to a CS1 expansion rack, or to daisy-chain multiple CS1 expansion racks together. Both ends use the same high-density connector that mates with the I/O bus connector on the CS1W-BC@@3 expansion backplanes and on the right-hand side of the CPU rack. Maximum total expansion distance with all CS1W-CN@@3 cables summed together is 12 m — for anything longer, you need a CS1W-IC101 I/O Control Unit + CS1W-II101 I/O Interface Units in long-distance expansion mode, which lets you reach 50 m per segment.
Naming convention: what the @@ in CS1W-CN@@3 means
All CS1W-CN@@3 cables share the same connector pinout and electrical spec — only the length changes. The @@ digits are a length code in decimetres: CS1W-CN313 is 0.3 m, CS1W-CN713 is 0.7 m, CS1W-CN223 is 2 m (this SKU), CS1W-CN323 is 3 m, CS1W-CN523 is 5 m, CS1W-CN133 is 10 m, and CS1W-CN133B2 is 12 m.
CS1W-CN223 in the rack-to-rack daisy chain
A CS1 system can have up to 7 expansion racks per CPU rack, with up to 12 Units per expansion rack (CS1W-BC083 / BC093 8-slot or 9-slot backplanes are most common). The CPU rack's right-hand I/O connector cables out to the first expansion rack's left-hand I/O connector (CS1W-CN223 covers this span when the racks are about 2 m apart); the first expansion rack's right-hand connector then cables out to the second expansion rack, and so on.
When CS1W-CN223 is the wrong cable
Three common pitfalls. First, the CS1W-CN223 is not a peripheral-port or RS-232C programming cable — the CS1W-CN226 (2 m, peripheral port to DB-9) and CS1W-CN626 (6 m) are the cables used to connect CX-Programmer to the CPU's peripheral USB/peripheral serial port. The connectors look similar but the pinout is different. Second, do not use a C200H-CN@@1 cable in a CS1 expansion — C200H I/O cables were for the older C200H/C200HS racks and have a different connector pitch.
Key Features
- 2 m I/O connecting cable for CS1 series expansion rack systems
- CS1W-CN@@3 family member — same connector pinout as 0.3 m, 0.7 m, 3 m, 5 m, 10 m.
- Links CPU rack to first expansion rack or expansion rack to expansion rack
- Maximum total expansion distance 12 m across all CS1W-CN@@3 cables combined
- Mates with I/O bus connector on CS1W-BC@@3 expansion backplanes
- Shielded construction for industrial EMC environments
- In-cabinet use only — connectors are not IP-rated for exterior routing
- Maximum 7 expansion racks per CPU rack
- SKU: CS1W-CN223
- Series: CS1W-CN@@3 (CS1 I/O Connecting Cable family)
Best-Fit Applications
- Connecting a CS1H CPU rack to a CS1W-BC083 expansion rack in a two-cabinet layout
- Replacing a degraded CS1W-CN@@3 cable during troubleshooting of intermittent I/O bus errors
- Standardised spare for legacy CS1 installations still in active service
- Cabinet rework when relocating a CS1 expansion rack by ~1.5 to 2 m
Buying Checklist
- Pick CS1W-CN223 when CPU rack and first expansion rack are ~1.5–2 m apart
- Pick CS1W-CN313 when both racks are in the same cabinet close together
- Pick CS1W-CN713 when racks are in the same cabinet with a wiring channel between
- Pick CS1W-CN323 or CS1W-CN523 for larger cabinet separations
- Pick CS1W-CN133 or CS1W-CN133B2 for maximum allowed separation
- Do NOT use CS1W-CN223 as a programming cable — that is CS1W-CN226 or CS1W-CN626
