Product Overview

The Omron E2EC-C1R5D1 is a sub-miniature inductive proximity sensor designed for mounting spaces too tight for a standard M8 or M12 barrel. The sensing head is just 5.4 mm in diameter, brass case with an ABS sensing surface. A short 0.4 m cable runs back to a small inline amplifier where the switching electronics and operation LED live. It is the standard pick when a part-detection point needs a shielded 1.5 mm read range from a head that is small enough to drop into a 6 mm drilled hole or sit between two machined features.

Where it fits in the E2E family

The E2E next-generation family splits by head diameter and sensing range. The 5.4 mm head version (this unit) and 3 mm head version (E2EC-CR8D1) sit in the E2EC series because they cannot fit the amplifier into the head. Standard E2E-X family sensors put the amplifier in the barrel and only need an M8 or larger threaded body. Pick the E2EC-C1R5D1 when mounting space is below 8 mm. Pick the E2EC-C3D1 for the same approach with a longer 3 mm range. Pick the E2E-X8MD1 for a standard M12 inductive sensor with 8 mm range.

Why a separate amplifier

The sensing head alone cannot host the oscillator, rectifier, and switching transistor when the head diameter is below 8 mm. E2EC splits the design: the small brass head holds the sensing coil and matching network, and the 0.4 m cable feeds the inline amplifier that carries the operation LED. Mount the amplifier block where the LED is visible during commissioning without crowding the head location.

Before ordering

Confirm the target is ferrous metal; inductive sensors do not detect plastic. Mount the head with the sensing face flush to the target's approach plane. Verify the 0.4 m cable run is accounted for before drilling any panel cutouts. Wire the amplifier side to a 12-24 VDC supply (10-30 VDC operating) and the two-wire output to the PLC input, observing polarity. Use the operation LED on the amplifier to confirm switching during commissioning.

Can the E2EC-C1R5D1 detect non-metal targets?
No. E2EC sensors are inductive and only respond to ferrous metals. They will also detect non-ferrous metals like aluminum, copper, or stainless steel at a reduced sensing distance (the standard 1/3 correction factor applies). For plastic, wood, glass, or liquid level sensing, move to the E2K capacitive proximity family.
Does this sensor need a separate controller or amplifier?
No external controller is needed. The amplifier circuit is integrated into the cable a short distance from the head, so the sensing head + amplifier + 2 m cable act as one unit. Wire the amplifier side directly to a 12-24 VDC supply and the two-wire output to the PLC input.
