Product Overview

The Omron E3FA-TP11 2M is the PNP version of Omron's 15 m through-beam sensor pair, sold as a matched set in M18 ABS plastic housings with 2 m cables already attached. One unit is the emitter, the other is the receiver with a PNP open-collector output that pulls high to the supply when the beam is unbroken (Light-ON, the factory default). The 2M suffix marks the pre-wired 2 m cable — the M12-connector sibling at the same 15 m family adds a quick-disconnect lead at higher cost.

Why pick the PNP through-beam pair

Pick the TP11 2M when the cabinet PLC has sourcing (PNP) inputs — most European and many Asian PLCs default to PNP, so a PNP sensor wires straight to the input without a resistor-divider or relay interface. If the PLC expects sinking inputs (typical of older Omron CJ-series built-in inputs with the NPN / PNP switch in the wrong position), pick the NPN sibling E3FA-TN11 2M instead — same housing, same cable, just the opposite output polarity. Through-beam beats diffuse-reflective for any application where the target is small, shiny, or unpredictable — the beam-break trigger does not depend on the surface colour or angle.

Where the E3FA-TP11 2M fits among other Omron 15 m sensors

Same 15 m range as the NPN E3FA-TN11 2M and the Light-ON M12-connector E3FA-TP21 (also 20 m range with the M12 lead). For glossy or transparent targets where a through-beam might give a false stable signal on a wet or wrapped surface, swap to a polarised retro-reflective sensor like the E3FA-RP11 2M paired with an E39-R1S reflector (4 m range, also PNP, also ABS body). For washdown environments where the ABS body is at risk, the E3FB series is the same form factor in nickel-plated brass.

Before ordering

Order one SKU and you get a matched emitter and receiver pair — both halves come already aligned. Confirm the supply is regulated 12-24 VDC ±10 %, the load does not exceed 100 mA at 30 VDC, and the cable run fits the layout — both leads are 2 m. For longer runs or detachable leads, the M12-connector E3FA-TP21 is the same sensor with a 4-pin quick-disconnect pigtail.

Key Features

  • 15 m through-beam sensing range (matched emitter + receiver pair)
  • PNP open-collector output (NO, Light-ON / Dark-ON wire-selectable)
  • Red 624 nm LED light source for visible alignment
  • 12-24 VDC ±10 % supply
  • 100 mA load current at 30 VDC max
  • 0.5 ms response time
  • Pre-wired 2 m cable set (4-core receiver, 2-core emitter)
  • ABS M18 threaded barrel housing
  • IP67 / IP69K ingress rating
  • -25 to +55 °C operating temperature
  • SKU: E3FA-TP11 2M
  • Series: E3FA M18 cylindrical ABS photoelectric sensor
  • Voltage: 12-24 VDC

Best-Fit Applications

  • Wide-conveyor carton presence detection at 10-12 m ranges on packaging lines
  • Door / gate beam on automatic storage and retrieval aisles
  • Trigger generation at the exit of a vibratory bowl feeder into the next station
  • Stack-height verification just before pallet stretch-wrapping
  • Long-distance detection through a clear zone where a diffuse sensor would false-trigger on the floor

Buying Checklist

  • Pick E3FA-TP11 2M when the PLC expects PNP sourcing inputs and the cabinet is within 2 m of the sensor.
  • Pick E3FA-TN11 2M instead when the PLC expects NPN sinking — same housing, same cable, opposite output polarity.
  • Pick E3FA-TP21 (no 2M) when you need 20 m range or want a detachable M12 lead.
  • Pick E3FA-RP11 2M with an E39-R1S reflector for glossy targets where the beam might reflect off the surface itself.
  • Mount both halves on a rigid bracket so the beam does not drift — through-beam sensors mis-trigger when alignment slips.

FAQ for E3FA-TP11 2M

What is the difference between E3FA-TP11 2M and E3FA-TN11 2M?
Both are 15 m through-beam pairs in M18 ABS housings with pre-wired 2 m cables. The TP11 is the PNP (sourcing) output version; the TN11 is the NPN (sinking) output version. Pick the one that matches the PLC input type — most European and Asian PLCs default to PNP, but many Omron CJ-series built-in inputs default to NPN unless explicitly switched. The TP11 wires straight into a sourcing input; the TN11 needs a sinking input or a relay interface.
Does E3FA-TP11 2M come as a pair or just one sensor?
Each order of the E3FA-TP11 2M is sold as a matched pair — one emitter and one receiver in the same M18 ABS housing. The emitter has no output lead; the receiver has the 4-core cable (power, output, light-on / dark-on, ground). For matched sets at longer range or with M12 leads, see E3FA-TP21 (20 m set, M12) or E3FA-TN21 2M (15 m set, NPN).
Can the E3FA-TP11 2M detect clear bottles or shiny film?
Not reliably. A standard through-beam sensor requires the target to actually break the beam — clear glass or PET, wet film, and shiny metal may pass the beam by refracting it around the target rather than blocking it. For those applications, use a polarised retro-reflective sensor (the E3FA-RP11 2M with an E39-R1S reflector) or a clear-bottle sensor from the E3FB family.
How is Light-ON / Dark-ON selected on the E3FA-TP11?
By wiring — the white or pink control wire (depending on the Omron drawing for that generation) is tied to either +V or 0 V to pick Light-ON (output ON when beam is unbroken) or Dark-ON (output ON when beam is broken). The mechanical switch on the back of some E3FA generations selects the same pair via a knob; for the pre-wired 2M set, the wire is the only control. The factory default is Light-ON.
