The Omron E3FA-TP21 is a through-beam photoelectric sensor set in the E3FA cylindrical family, manufactured by Omron Corporation. What is the Omron E3FA-TP21 used for?
It is a paired emitter and receiver set that detects any opaque object between the two heads at up to 20 m. The receiver switches a PNP output when the beam is broken, typically into a PLC fast input for conveyor counting or end-of-line detection.
Is the E3FA-TP21 PNP or NPN?
PNP open collector. The TP in the part number marks the PNP variant; the TN versions are the NPN twin. PNP means the output sources positive voltage to the PLC input when the beam is broken in Dark-ON mode.
What is the difference between E3FA-TP21 and E3FA-TP11 2M?
Connection. The TP21 has an M12 4-pin connector on each head and is easier to swap in the field. The TP11 2M has a fixed 2 m cable on each head and is simpler when the cabinet is close to the conveyor.
What supply voltage does the E3FA-TP21 need?
10 to 30 VDC on pin 1 (brown) of each head, with 0 V on pin 3 (blue). The emitter draws about 25 mA, the receiver about 15 mA, for 40 mA total. Pin 4 (black) on the receiver is the PNP output.
Can the E3FA-TP21 detect clear or shiny objects?
Not reliably. A standard through-beam set needs an opaque target at least 7 mm across. For clear PET bottles or polished metal, pick the E3FA-BP21 (P-opaquing retro-reflective) or the E3FA-RP21 (MSR polarised retro-reflective) instead.
