The number of switching elements. The 3N switches all three phases; the 2N switches two and passes the third straight through. Omron notes that with a 2-element model the leakage current on phase S is about √3 times larger. Pick the 3N when all three legs must be broken.
Can the G3PE-535B-3N switch a three-phase motor?
No. Omron sells it as a solid state contactor for heaters and rates it 35 A at AC-51, a resistive-load category. Motor inrush is far above that rating, so use a motor-rated contactor or a soft starter instead.
Does the G3PE-535B-3N need an external heat sink?
No, the heat sink is built in. Leave the fins clear and mount the unit with room for airflow around it — the 35 A rating is quoted at 40 °C ambient and derates as the cabinet gets hotter.
