Product Overview
The NX-OD5256 is the 16-point density variant of the standard PNP sourcing transistor output unit in Omron's NX-series modular I/O family — when you need more than the 8 points provided by the NX-OD4256 (already in our catalog) per slice, you can double up to 16 points on the same 12 mm slice width. Each of the 16 outputs sources up to 0.5 A from a 24 VDC rail, with the total per-unit current capped at 4 A (so the practical continuous output is 16 × 0.25 A = 4 A on average; if any one output is sustained >0.5 A the overload protection triggers and that output is latched off until power-cycle).

PNP sourcing output — what it means for wiring
PNP sourcing means the output point switches the +24 VDC side of the load: when the output is ON, the point sources +24 VDC to the load; when OFF, the point is high-impedance (the load sees 0 VDC). The load's return terminal connects to the unit's COM terminal, which is the common reference tied to 0 VDC. Typical wiring: PNP output #0 → 1 → solenoid valve A1 terminal; valve A2 → 0 VDC bus → returns to the unit's COM terminal. When the PLC writes a '1' to output bit 0, the output point sources +24 VDC, energizing the valve.
Grouping — 8 points per common
The 16 outputs are arranged as 2 groups of 8 outputs, each group with its own common terminal. Group 1: outputs 0-7 share one COM terminal; Group 2: outputs 8-15 share a second COM terminal. The two groups are independently switchable (one group can drive 24 VDC while the other is OFF or even unused).
