The STO is wired via two dedicated safety input terminals (typically labeled 'S+' and 'S-' or 'STO1' and 'STO2'); when both inputs are energized, the drive operates normally; when either input is de-energized (e.g., by an E-stop contact opening), the drive removes torque from the motor within 5 ms (the safe state). This is the highest level of drive-integrated safety — equivalent to a hardwired contactor-based E-stop, but without the contactor.
