Omron 3G3MX2 MX2 Inverter / VFD
The 3G3MX2 is Omron's compact MX2 inverter family. The digits in the model number are the motor capacity in kW times ten — A4007 is 0.75 kW and A4040 is 4.0 kW — and the trailing V2 is the current second-generation revision. Three-phase 380-480 VAC, three-phase 200-240 VAC and single-phase 200-240 VAC classes all use the same body.
Lifecycle status
MX2 V2 is current; the V1 generation reached end of production in December 2024
Omron marks 3G3MX2-V1 as discontinued from December 2024 on both its Asia-Pacific and Australian sites. V2 is the current version and is what Omron's own stores stock. We hold V2 models.
What to fit instead: V2 replaces V1 — same dimensions, but the terminal block is physically rearranged
Key specifications

- IP20 open type, -10 to +50 C ambient, RS-422/RS-485 Modbus plus USB 2.0 Micro-B
- V2 has a 5-digit display with a jog wheel, replacing the 4-digit panel on V1, and a dual-channel encoder input at 32 kHz against V1's single channel B input
How to read a 3G3MX2 model number
Four characters of capacity, then the voltage class. The V1 and V2 revisions are dimensionally identical but not wiring-identical.
| Model | Input class | Normal duty | Light duty |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3G3MX2-A4007-V2 | 3-phase 380-480 VAC | 0.75 kW (1 HP), 3.4 A | 1.5 kW (2 HP), 4.1 A |
| 3G3MX2-A4040-V2 | 3-phase 380-480 VAC | 4.0 kW | 5.5 kW |
| 3G3MX2-A4055-V2 | 3-phase 380-480 VAC | 5.5 kW | 7.5 kW |
| 3G3MX2-A4075-V2 | 3-phase 380-480 VAC | 7.5 kW | 11 kW |
| 3G3MX2-A4110-V2 | 3-phase 380-480 VAC | 11 kW | 15 kW |
| 3G3MX2-AB002-V2 | 1-phase 200-240 VAC | 0.2 kW | 0.4 kW |
| 3G3MX2-AB004-V2 | 1-phase 200-240 VAC | 0.4 kW | 0.75 kW |
| 3G3MX2-AB007-V2 | 1-phase 200-240 VAC | 0.75 kW | 1.5 kW |
| 3G3MX2-AB015-V2 | 1-phase 200-240 VAC | 1.5 kW | 2.2 kW |
| 3G3AX-MX2-ECT | EtherCAT option unit | fits the inverter | fits the inverter |
A = three-phase input, B = single-phase input, 4 = 400 VAC class, 2 = 200 VAC class. There is no 200 VDC class — the 200 V class is AC. Note that 2.1 A on the A4007 datasheet is the rated INPUT current, not the output; rated output is 3.4 A normal duty.
Replacing an MX2 V1 with a V2
The two are the same size and the parameter sets are largely interchangeable — V1 parameter sets can be copied to a V2. Three things still need checking. First, the terminal NAMES are unchanged but their physical positions are rearranged, so re-check the wiring rather than landing each wire where it was. Second, Frequency Matching was removed on V2, which matters on mixing, centrifuge and fan applications. Third, the safety level rises to SIL 3 / PLe and EDM must be implemented, so any hardwired STO circuit should be reviewed.
Where these parts get used
- Conveyor and pump stations on a three-phase 400 V supply where the drive has to hold speed at light load without hunting
- Retrofit of an MX2 V1 where the footprint must not change but the safety level needs to be raised to PLe
- EtherCAT-connected drives on an NJ or NX machine controller using the 3G3AX-MX2-ECT option unit
Which model do you need
- Order the capacity from the normal-duty rating, not the light-duty one — an A4007 is 0.75 kW ND and 1.5 kW LD.
- Choose the ECT option unit for EtherCAT connectivity; the EtherNet/IP card is a different part, the 3G3AX-MX2-EIP-A.
- The ECT unit requires MX2 version 1.1 or later, and is programmed with CX-Drive 3.03 or later for CS/CJ/CP or Sysmac Studio 1.59 or later for NJ/NX.
- When replacing a V1, re-check terminal positions and confirm the machine does not rely on Frequency Matching.

Frequently asked
What does 3G3MX2-A4007-V2 actually output?
0.75 kW at normal duty, rated output current 3.4 A, on a three-phase 380-480 VAC input. The 2.1 A figure that appears on some listings is the rated input current, not the output. In light duty the same unit carries 1.5 kW at 4.1 A.
Is the MX2 V1 still available?
No. Omron marks the 3G3MX2-V1 generation as discontinued from December 2024. The V2 is current production and is what we stock.
Can I replace an MX2 V1 with a V2 without rewiring?
The dimensions are identical and the parameter set largely carries over, but the terminal names stayed the same while their physical positions were rearranged. Re-check every terminal rather than assuming the previous layout. Also note that Frequency Matching was removed on V2.
What is the difference between the -ECT and -EIP option units?
They are different networks. The 3G3AX-MX2-ECT connects the inverter to EtherCAT and requires MX2 version 1.1 or later. The EtherNet/IP card is the 3G3AX-MX2-EIP-A. Omron notes that on CS, CJ and CP platforms the ECT unit supports the CJ series only, so check your specific CPU before assuming it will work.
What safety level does the MX2 V2 provide?
Built-in STO to EN ISO 13849-1 Cat. 3 PLe, SIL 3. That is an increase over the V1, which was SIL 2 / PLd. External Device Monitoring has to be implemented in the safety circuit to use the higher level.
