Product Overview

The Omron CJ1W-OD262 is the 64-point PNP-sourcing sibling of the CJ1W-OD261. It drops onto one slot of a CJ1M, CJ2M, or CJ-expansion rack and gives sixty-four 24 VDC outputs, each one capable of sourcing current to the load. Wiring lands on two Fujitsu-compatible 40-pin front sockets (the C500-CE241 family) and a single XC5M cable fan-out splits the I/O to field devices, so all 64 points fit on one card and one rack slot.

When to pick sourcing instead of sinking

Pick the OD262 when the field devices (relays, solenoids, indicator lamps, small motor contactors with DC coils) expect a positive DC signal -- they switch ON when the PLC output sources +24 V to their input terminal. Pick the OD261 instead when the load expects ground -- the PLC output sinks current to 0 V to switch the device ON. Both cards sit on the same slot, draw the same 170 mA from the backplane, and need the same external DC 10.2-26.4 V field supply, so the wiring polarity is the only decision.

The OD2xx family at a glance

Confirm the polarity needed by the loads. CJ1W-OD262 requires a separate DC 10.2-26.4 V field supply fed into the connector V+ and V- pins -- it does NOT back-feed through the load, which raises common-mode voltage and false-triggers neighbouring commons. Match the cable's pin-1 marker to the white triangle on the unit before tightening the connector screws, and verify that the CJ rack budget covers the unit's 170 mA backplane draw plus the rest of the rack before seating.

What is the difference between CJ1W-OD262 and CJ1W-OD261?
Polarity. OD261 is NPN sinking (the output pulls the load down to 0 V to switch it ON); OD262 is PNP sourcing (the output pushes +24 V to the load to switch it ON). Both cards sit on the same CJ slot, draw the same 170 mA from the backplane, and need the same external DC 10.2-26.4 V field supply. The wiring on the cable changes polarity; the rest is identical. Pick OD261 for negative-common panels and OD262 for positive-common panels.
How much power does the CJ1W-OD262 draw?
About 170 mA from the 5 VDC bus on the CJ backplane, just to run the output logic. The actual load current is sourced from the external DC 10.2-26.4 V field supply, not from the backplane, so the OD262 does not draw 24 V from the rack. With all 64 outputs ON at the rated 0.3 A per point, the unit draws 19.2 A from the field supply -- size the cabinet PSU accordingly.
How fast does the CJ1W-OD262 switch?
0.5 ms or less on, 1.0 ms or less off -- the same as OD261 / OD211 / OD231. This is fast enough for most solenoid and indicator duty. For high-speed pulse output -- stepper step / direction signalling, 10 kHz+ pulse train -- pick the CJ1W-OD213 or CJ1W-OD234 (sourcing-sourcing high-speed siblings at 15 us ON / 80 us OFF).
Does the CJ1W-OD262 work with the same cables as the CJ1W-OD261?
Yes. Both cards use the same two Fujitsu-compatible 40-pin front sockets (the C500-CE241 / XG5M-N1632 family) and the same wiring direction polarity reverses the signal sense. If you are migrating between sourcing and sinking on the same panel, the cable assembly carries over -- only the polarity on the field-side wiring and the I/O mapping in the ladder program needs to change.
