Product Overview

The Omron CJ1W-PA205R is the 25 W AC power supply for a CJ-series PLC rack, with a built-in RUN output contact that closes while the CPU is in RUN mode. It takes 100-240 VAC from the cabinet mains and feeds the rack with 5 VDC at 5 A for the CPU bus plus a 24 VDC at 0.8 A service supply for sensors or relay coils (25 W total). At 80 mm wide, it sits between the slim PA202 (14 W, 45 mm) and the wider CPU units to its right.

When to pick this over the PA202 or PA205C

The R in PA205R is the giveaway: it has a RUN output — a relay contact that closes while the CPU is in RUN mode and opens on stop or fault. Use it to drive an external "system running" lamp, a master enable signal to a downstream station, or a redundant-shutdown input on a safety relay. The PA205C swaps the RUN output for a replacement-notification function — pick that one when the controller needs to know when the PSU is approaching end of life. The PA202 is 14 W at 45 mm with no extra features — pick it for tight-cabinet builds that don't need the RUN signal.

Before ordering

Add up the 5 V current draw of every module on the rack. The PA205R delivers 5 A at 5 V — enough for a CJ1M or CJ2M CPU plus roughly 30 basic 16-/32-point I/O units, but heavy racks with analog or CPU-bus units can still push past 3 A. The 24 VDC service supply is 0.8 A — enough for sensor LEDs and indicator lamps, but not enough to drive solenoid valves or contactors. Add a separate S8VK-G06024 or S8VK-G12024 for those loads. If the cabinet only has 24 VDC available, choose the CJ1W-PD025.

  • 100-240 VAC wide-range input (85-264 VAC operating range)
  • 5 VDC output: 5.0 A (for CJ bus + CPU)
  • 24 VDC service supply: 0.8 A (for sensors, lamps, small relay coils)
  • RUN output relay contact (SPST-NO) — closes while CPU is in RUN
  • RUN contact rating: 250 VAC 2 A resistive / 24 VDC 2 A
  • 80 mm DIN-rail width (mid-size; PA202 is 45 mm, PA205C same as this)
  • Finger-safe input and output terminals
  • Green DC ON status LED on the front face
  • Compatible with CJ1M, CJ1H, CJ2M, CJ2H, and NJ-series expansion racks
  • SEMI-F47 compliant; UL 508 / cUL / CE / Lloyd's / RCM
  • SKU: CJ1W-PA205R
  • Series: CJ1W-PA205R
  • Voltage: 100-240 VAC
  • I/O: 100 I/O

Best-Fit Applications

  • Mid-size CJ-series PLC rack where an external indicator needs to confirm CPU is in RUN
  • Standalone machine controller where one PSU feeds the CJ bus plus a small 24 VDC sensor load
  • Migration replacement for legacy C200HW-PA204S in C200H-to-CJ1 retrofits
  • OEM machine build where the customer-facing HMI has a "system running" lamp driven by the RUN contact
  • Compact control panel feeding CPU, basic I/O, and a handful of 24 VDC photo eyes from one supply

Buying Checklist

  • Pick CJ1W-PA205R (this SKU) for 25 W with a RUN output contact for CPU-status indication
  • Pick CJ1W-PA202 for the slim 14 W AC PSU when you don't need the RUN signal and the rack is small
  • Pick CJ1W-PD025 for 25 W capacity when the cabinet only supplies 24 VDC (no AC mains)
  • Pick CJ1W-PD022 for a smaller 24 VDC-input PSU on a tight CJ expansion rack
  • Confirm total 5 VDC rack current is under 5 A before sizing this PSU
  • Use the 24 VDC 0.8 A service supply only for sensors and lamps — add an S8VK-G06024 for solenoid valves

FAQ for CJ1W-PA205R

What's the difference between CJ1W-PA205R and CJ1W-PA205C?
Both are 25 W CJ-series 100-240 VAC power supplies at 80 mm wide. The PA205R (this SKU) has a RUN output — a relay contact that closes while the CPU is in RUN mode. The PA205C has a replacement-notification function instead, which signals when the PSU is nearing end of service life. Pick PA205R for an external RUN-status lamp or master-enable signal; pick PA205C when the system does predictive maintenance.
How do I wire the RUN output contact?
The RUN terminals are a single SPST-NO relay contact — they have no polarity and are fully isolated from the PSU's internal circuits. Wire them like any small relay: one side to your indicator lamp, downstream device, or PLC input; the other to the supply for that load. Rated 250 VAC 2 A resistive or 24 VDC 2 A.
How many CJ1W I/O units can the CJ1W-PA205R power?
The 5 VDC output is 5 A. A typical CJ2M-CPU + 10 basic 16-/32-point I/O units draws around 1.5–2 A — well within the limit. Racks with analog I/O, communication units, or CPU-bus units draw more; plan for roughly 3 A for a full 30-unit CPU rack. For expansion racks with mostly special I/O, use a second PA205R on the expansion rack instead of daisy-chaining.
Is the CJ1W-PA205R compatible with NJ-series CPUs?
Yes — it works as the PSU on a CJ1W expansion rack behind an NJ101, NJ301, or NJ501 CPU. For a new NJ installation, the dedicated NJ-PA3001 PSU is the preferred choice on the CPU rack itself; use the PA205R when adding a CJ expansion rack to an existing NJ system or migrating from CJ2M.
