What's the difference between CJ1W-PD025 and CJ1W-PA205R?
PD025 takes 24V DC input; PA205R takes 100-240V AC input. Both provide 5V/5A + 24V/0.8A output (25W total). The PD025 is for DC-only installations (battery, solar, DC bus); the PA205R is for AC mains. Most industrial sites use PA205R. Mechanically and functionally they are interchangeable in a CJ1 rack.
Can I use the CJ1W-PD025 with a 12V battery system?
No — the PD025 requires 21.6-26.4V DC, which is outside a 12V battery's range. You'd need a 12V-to-24V boost converter in front of the PD025. A simpler solution for low-voltage DC systems is to use a different PLC family (CP1L for small systems, or add a 24V industrial battery as a UPS on a normal AC installation).
How many CJ1 I/O units can the PD025 power?
5V at 5A is enough for 1 CPU + 5-7 typical I/O units + 1-2 communication units. Check the 5V current draw of each unit in the datasheet — a CJ1W-ID211 (16-point DC input) draws 80mA, a CJ1W-OC211 (16-point output) draws 110mA, and a CJ1W-IC101 (I/O control unit) draws 90mA. A typical mid-size CJ1 system of 1 CPU + 4 I/O + 1 communication draws under 1A — well within the 5A budget.
What size circuit breaker do I need for the inrush current?
The PD025 has 30A inrush for 20ms at cold start. Most industrial 24V supplies with 10-15A continuous rating handle this — the supply's current limit needs to be above 30A for 20ms. Use a 10A slow-blow fuse or 10A C-curve breaker on the input side. If the supply is rated exactly 10A continuous, the PD025 may trip it on startup.
