Product Overview
The Omron CJ1W-SCU22 is the CJ-series high-speed (SCU@2) CPU-bus serial communication unit with two RS-232C ports. Pick the SCU22 when a CJ cabinet has two RS-232C devices that need a faster link than the standard 38.4 kbps ceiling -- the SCU@2 family extends each port up to 230.4 kbps and gives faster CPU-side data transfer. The unit slots into any CPU-bus position on the CJ1 / CJ2 rack, pulls 0.28 A from the 5 VDC backplane (no external supply), and runs both ports independently with separate protocols.
SCU@2 high-speed vs SCU-V1 standard-speed
The SCU22 / SCU32 / SCU42 family is the @2 high-speed type -- 230.4 kbps on each port and faster CPU-side hand-off. The SCU-V1 family (SCU21-V1, SCU31-V1, SCU41-V1) tops out at 38.4 kbps. If 57.6 / 115.2 / 230.4 kbps is needed, pick the SCU@2 type. The SCU32 is the 2x RS-422A / 485 sibling; the SCU42 is the mixed-port sibling.
Per-port protocols
On a CJ system, each port sets independently to protocol macro, Host Link (SYSWAY for CX-Programmer upload or a SYSWAY master), NT Link 1:N for an NS / NB HMI panel, serial gateway (auto FINS / Host Link / Modbus-RTU conversion), no-protocol (raw byte send / receive), or Modbus-RTU slave. The SCU is only a Modbus-RTU SLAVE, not a master. The serial gateway is the typical pick when a third-party sensor / inverter needs to land on the CPU as FINS. On an NJ CPU the per-port list drops Host Link and NT Link.
Before ordering
Confirm the CJ rack has a free CPU-bus unit slot. Up to 16 SCUs / 32 serial ports per system. The SCU22 is NOT hot-swappable; mount or replace with the CJ rack powered off. For long-distance RS-422A / RS-485 1:N, attach the NT-AL001 RS-232C to RS-422A link adapter to a port (each NT-AL001 adds 0.15 A to the draw).
Key Features
- CJ-series SCU@2 HIGH-SPEED serial communication unit with TWO RS-232C ports on D-Sub 9-pin connectors
- Up to 230.4 kbps per port in SCU@2 high-speed mode (the standard SCU2x-V1 family tops out at 38.4 kbps)
- Two independent RS-232C point-to-point links up to 15 m cable run
- Each port sets independently: protocol macro, host link, NT link (1:N), serial gateway, no-protocol, Modbus-RTU slave
- 5 VDC 0.28 A from the CJ backplane -- no separate power supply required (each NT-AL001 adapter on a port adds 0.15 A)
- Modbus-RTU acts as SLAVE only -- the SCU does not act as a Modbus-RTU master
- RS-422A / RS-485 1:N multidrop via the NT-AL001 link adapter on each RS-232C port (the SCU22 has no RS-422A port built in)
- COMM1 / COMM2 + RUN / ERC front-panel LEDs
- Up to 16 SCUs per CJ rack, up to 32 serial ports per system
- Mounts in any CJ CPU-bus unit slot (CJ1M / CJ1H / CJ2H / CJ2M / NJ CPU racks)
- Pair with the NT-AL001 RS-232C to RS-422A / RS-485 link adapter for 1:N multidrop
- Not hot-swappable -- mount or replace with the CJ rack powered off
- Distinguishing feature vs SCU21-V1: SCU22 is the @2 high-speed 230.4 kbps sibling; SCU21-V1 is 38.4 kbps standard
- SKU: CJ1W-SCU22
- Series: CJ-series CPU Bus Serial Communication Unit, SCU@2 high-speed type
Best-Fit Applications
- Two RS-232C devices on one CJ CPU where one or both need a faster link than 38.4 kbps (e.g. 115.2 kbps serial-label printer or 230.4 kbps barcode reader)
- High-speed serial gateway from a third-party Modbus-RTU inverter / temperature controller to a CJ1 CPU as FINS
- Two Host Link master ports for connecting to older C-series or C200H PLCs on a migration retrofit at 57.6 kbps or 115.2 kbps
- Pick the SCU-V1 standard-speed family instead (SCU21-V1 / SCU31-V1 / SCU41-V1) when 38.4 kbps is enough -- the SCU@2 commands a price premium
- Pick the SCU32 instead when the two high-speed ports need to be RS-422A / RS-485 instead of RS-232C (long-distance multidrop at 230.4 kbps)
Buying Checklist
- Pick CJ1W-SCU22 for two RS-232C ports on a CJ CPU bus at up to 230.4 kbps per port with 0.28 A backplane draw.
- Pick CJ1W-SCU21-V1 instead when 38.4 kbps is enough on a standard-speed 2x RS-232C port build.
- Pick CJ1W-SCU32 instead for two RS-422A / RS-485 ports at 230.4 kbps (long-distance multidrop).
- Pick CJ1W-SCU42 instead for one RS-232C + one RS-422A / RS-485 mixed-port high-speed build.
- Pick the NT-AL001 link adapter to convert an RS-232C port on the SCU22 to RS-422A for 1:N multidrop (adds 0.15 A per adapter).
- Confirm the CJ rack has a free CPU-bus unit slot and that the CJ1W-PA205R / PD025 PSU can carry the SCU stack.
