Product Overview

The Omron CP2E-S30DT-D is a slim-line CPU in the CP2E family. It gives 18 DC inputs and 12 transistor sinking outputs in the 30 I/O form, runs on 24 VDC, and holds an 8K-step ladder program with 8K words of data memory. A built-in Ethernet port on the CP2E-S line links it to an NB HMI or a host. Two pulse outputs and four high-speed counters handle simple position and speed loops. It is the standard pick for OEM machines that need more logic than a CP1E but do not need the dual Ethernet of a CP2E-N.

Where it fits in the CP2E family

The CP2E lineup is split by network and size. CP2E-N is the standard line with two Ethernet ports and EtherCAT option. CP2E-S is the slim line with one Ethernet port. CP2E-E is the economy line with no Ethernet. Pick the CP2E-S30DT-D for a 30 I/O slim PLC with transistor sinking outputs on 24 VDC. Pick the CP2E-S30DT1-D for sourcing outputs. Pick the CP2E-S30DR-A for relay outputs on AC100-240 V. Pick the CP2E-N30DT-D when two Ethernet ports are needed.

Why transistor sinking rather than relay

Transistor outputs switch faster than relays and survive the high cycle count of valve banks and small stepper drives. Sinking outputs (DT) tie to a PNP-input device; sourcing (DT1) ties to NPN-input. Use transistor outputs for solenoid valves, indicator lamps, and small DC loads. Move to the relay DR variant when an AC load or a higher inrush (motor starter, heater) needs to be driven directly.

Before ordering

Confirm the load devices are 24 VDC inputs matched to the sinking output. Wire the 24 VDC supply to the input power terminals with the correct polarity. Add a CP1W Option Board for serial to a barcode reader, scale, or inverter with Modbus RTU. Set the Ethernet IP on first power-up via CX-Programmer over USB. Confirm expansion count: CP2E-S accepts one CP1W module; step up to CP2E-N if three modules are needed.

Buying Checklist

  • Choose CP2E-S30DT-D for 30 I/O slim PLC with 24 VDC supply and sinking outputs.
  • Choose CP2E-S30DT1-D for sourcing transistor outputs instead of sinking.
  • Choose CP2E-S30DR-A for relay outputs and AC100-240 V supply.
  • Choose CP2E-N30DT-D when two Ethernet ports and EtherCAT option are needed.
  • Choose CP2E-E30DR-A for economy line without Ethernet port.
  • Confirm field loads are 24 VDC matched to sinking outputs and total current draw.

FAQ for CP2E-S30DT-D

What is the difference between CP2E-S30DT-D and CP2E-N30DT-D?
Both are 30 I/O 24 VDC PLCs with transistor sinking outputs. The CP2E-S has one Ethernet port and accepts one CP1W expansion. The CP2E-N has two Ethernet ports, accepts three CP1W expansions, and adds EtherCAT option board support. Pick the S for compact machines; pick the N for networked lines or larger I/O count.
Does the CP2E-S30DT-D have a built-in Ethernet port?
Yes, the CP2E-S line has one 100Base-TX Ethernet port on the CPU. Use it to connect to an NB-series HMI, send data to a host system, or program via CX-Programmer over Ethernet (USB is also available on the front). Add a CP1W Option Board for RS-232C or RS-485 when a serial peripheral is needed.
Can the CP2E-S30DT-D use expansion modules?
Yes, one CP1W expansion module can be attached to the right side. Common choices are CP1W-8ED for 8 extra DC inputs, CP1W-16ER for 16 relay outputs, or CP1W-AD042 for 4-channel analog input. If more than one expansion is needed, step up to the CP2E-N40 or CP2E-N60 CPU.
