Product Overview

The Omron D4BS-25FS is a hinge-mount safety door switch with 2NC slow-action contacts and certified direct opening. When the protective door opens, the operating key is pulled out of the head, and the NC contacts are mechanically forced open — even if the contacts have welded shut. That is the practical reason a safety-rated switch with direct opening belongs on a hazardous-machine guard, instead of a regular limit switch.

Where the D4BS-25FS fits on a guard door

D4BS switches are typically mounted behind the hinge of a swinging guard door, with the operating key fixed to the door. Closing the door pushes the key into the switch head and latches the contacts. Opening the door pulls the key out and forces the NC contacts open. The 1,300 N holding force is well above the EN ISO 14119 minimum for category-3 and category-4 circuits, so the switch stays latched even under vibration or someone leaning on the door.

Reading the model code

D4BS-25FS breaks down as: D4BS = hinge-mount safety door switch series; 25 = 2NC contact form; F = single-conduit housing; S = standard model (vs the AFS or gold-contact variants). For a 1NC/1NO form, look at D4BS-15FS. For a 2NC/1NO form, look at D4BS-45FS. The matching operating key is ordered separately — pick the key type that matches your door swing direction.

Before ordering

The switch ships without the operating key — pick a D4BS-K key to match the door swing. Plan a single M20 cable gland on the conduit entry. For an M12 connectorised housing, look at the D4BS-25FS-R variant. Operating temperature is -40 to +80 °C — wider than most safety switches, which makes the D4BS a good fit for outdoor cabinets and cold-storage rooms.

Key Features

  • Hinge-mount safety door switch, 2NC slow-action contacts
  • Certified direct opening mechanism on NC contacts (EN ISO 14119)
  • 1,300 N holding force — well above the 1,000 N category-3 / 4 minimum
  • Single M20 conduit entry
  • IP67 sealing for water and oil environments
  • Operating key sold separately — pick a D4BS-K key for the door swing
  • Operating temperature -40 to +80 °C
  • Certified to TÜV (EN), UL, CSA
  • SKU: D4BS-25FS
  • Series: D4BS hinge-mount safety door switch
  • Voltage: 400 VAC

Best-Fit Applications

  • Swinging guard door on a metal-cutting machine that opens only when the spindle is stopped
  • Hinged access panel on a packaging machine where the operator must reach into the work area
  • Maintenance door on a hydraulic press that interlocks with the press-stroke safety circuit
  • Hatch on a conveyor turntable where the operator opens it to clear a jam
  • Outdoor cabinet door on a pump skid where -40 °C winter ratings matter

Buying Checklist

  • Choose D4BS-25FS for a 2NC hinge-mount safety door switch with 1,300 N holding force; pick D4BS-15FS if you need 1NC/1NO instead.
  • Order the matching D4BS-K operating key separately — the switch ships without one and the key type depends on the door swing.
  • Pick the M12 connectorised D4BS-25FS-R variant if you want a quick-disconnect cable instead of a conduit.
  • Use the direct-opening NC contact in the safety circuit (not the NO contact) — the NO does not have direct-opening certification.
  • Plan a single M20 cable gland on the conduit entry and route the cable to the safety controller or safety relay.

FAQ for D4BS-25FS

What is the difference between D4BS-25FS and D4BS-15FS?
D4BS-25FS is 2NC (two normally-closed contacts) and D4BS-15FS is 1NC/1NO (one NC and one NO). Pick 2NC for a category-3 or 4 safety circuit where the safety controller reads both NCs; pick 1NC/1NO when you also need a non-safety door-position signal for a PLC.
Does the D4BS-25FS need an operating key?
Yes. The D4BS-25FS ships without an operating key. You must order a D4BS-K key separately, sized to match the door swing direction (top, side, or bottom insertion). Without the key, the switch contacts stay open and the door is not detected as closed.
What is the holding force of the D4BS-25FS?
1,300 N minimum per the Omron datasheet. That is well above the EN ISO 14119 minimum of 1,000 N for category-3 and category-4 safety circuits, so the switch stays latched under vibration and minor door bounce.
Is the D4BS-25FS IP67 rated?
Yes — the switch body is IP67 per EN 60947-5-1, which protects against water jets and oil ingress. The operating key insertion slot must be kept clean so the key seats fully and the contacts close reliably.
