Product Overview
The D4DS-K2 is a vertical-mount operation key — the metal tongue that inserts into the head of an Omron D4NS, D4NL, D4BL, or D4GL guard-lock safety-door switch. It is not a switch itself: the actual switching logic, contact arrangement, and solenoid lock are inside the D4NS / D4NL / D4BL / D4GL body. The D4DS-K2 is the actuator that the switch detects. The "-K2" suffix specifies vertical mounting orientation: the key is inserted vertically into the switch head from above (top-insertion) or from below, depending on how the switch head is rotated.
How the D4DS-K2 fits in the D4DS family
Omron offers four operation-key orientations in the D4DS series: D4DS-K1 (horizontal mounting, the default for most hinged guard doors with a vertical key insertion axis), D4DS-K2 (vertical mounting, this SKU), D4DS-K3 (adjustable mounting, horizontal direction), and D4DS-K5 (adjustable mounting, horizontal/vertical, the most flexible). Pick the D4DS-K2 when the key's insertion axis must be vertical — typically because the door swings out horizontally and the switch sits above or below the door's open position. Pick the D4DS-K1 when the door swings open vertically (such as a lift-up guard on a small machine) and the key inserts horizontally into the switch.
Switch compatibility and holding force
The D4DS-K2 is fully compatible with the D4NS (key-operated, no solenoid lock, plastic housing, 1/2/3 or 4 contacts), D4NL (key-operated with solenoid lock, plastic housing, 4 or 5 contacts), and D4BL (key-operated with solenoid lock, die-cast metal housing, heavier duty) families. It is also mechanically compatible with the older D4GL family. Holding force is determined by the switch, not by the key: with a D4NS the holding force is approximately the switch's contact-block retention, typically less than 700 N; with a D4NL the holding force is 1,300 N min; with a D4BL the holding force is 700 N min.
Installation notes
The D4DS-K2 is supplied with two M5 × 16 one-way screws (drive in only, cannot be backed out) and a mounting template. Bolt the key to the door's swinging edge with the one-way screws so it cannot be removed by an operator. The key's insertion depth into the switch is 20 mm min; the key's allowable overshoot is 4 mm. When the door closes, the key must fully enter the switch head with at least 4 mm of insertion margin so that door sag or misalignment does not cause a fault.
