Product Overview
The Omron D4NL-4CFG-B is a compact guard-lock safety-door switch for machine guarding on small to mid-size equipment. It locks the guard closed by energising a 24 VDC solenoid and unlocks mechanically when power is removed - a power-to-lock design that fails to the safe (unlocked) state on power loss. Four slow-action poles give you 1NC/1NO for door position feedback plus 1NC/1NO for lock state, both with force-guided NC contacts per EN 60947-5-1. The 1300 N holding force stops a swinging guard from being pushed open by the running machine. Pick the D4NL-4CFG-B when the safety relay needs both door-position and lock-state feedback and the cabinet supplies a constant 24 VDC to keep the guard locked.
Power-to-lock vs power-to-unlock
Guard-lock switches come in two philosophies. CFG is power-to-lock: the solenoid must be energised to keep the guard locked. Power loss unlocks the guard and lets the operator open the door without a tool. AFG is power-to-unlock: a spring keeps the guard locked when power is lost, and the operator must use the manual release to escape if shut inside. Choose CFG (this SKU) when the machine must stop on power loss and the operator never gets locked inside. Choose AFG when the hazardous motion must stay stopped even during a power outage.
Decoding the D4NL-4CFG-B code
D4NL is the compact guard-lock family. 4 is the 4-pole arrangement (1NC/1NO + 1NC/1NO). C marks solenoid lock / mechanical release (A or B siblings are power-to-unlock). F marks the top operation-key entry. G marks the AC/DC 10-115 V orange indicator. B is the M20 conduit entry. The matching operation key (D4DS-K1 / K2 / K3 or K5) sells separately - order at the same time.
Before ordering
Confirm the safety category (typically Cat 1 / PL c with one switch, up to Cat 4 / PL e with dual-channel wiring plus a G9SA or G9SP safety relay). Wire the orange LED to a 24 VDC source for the operation indicator. Mount the switch on the fixed frame and the D4DS-K2 operation key on the moving guard. Verify the 1300 N holding force exceeds the force the running machine can apply to a loose guard before commissioning.

Best-Fit Applications
- Locking the access door of a small CNC mill or assembly station where the hazardous motion runs constantly.
- Locking a packaging-machine guard during the heat-seal or cut cycle where the door must not open mid-cycle.
- Solenoid-locked guard on a robot cell where power loss must release the door for operator access.
- Machine-tool door interlock with separate door-position and lock-state feedback to a G9SA-301 safety relay.
- Medium-duty production-line guarding in food, packaging, or assembly where 1300 N holding force is sufficient.
Buying Checklist
- Confirm the operation key model - D4DS-K2 is the resin standard key that pairs with this switch.
- Choose D4NL-4AFG-B if you need power-to-unlock (spring locks when power is removed) - the CFG variant unlocks on power loss.
- Verify pairing with a G9SA-301 or G9SP-N20S safety relay for dual-channel Cat 4 / PL e guarding - this switch alone is Cat 1 / PL c.
- Verify the safety category required by the risk assessment - PL d minimum for most production-line guards.
- Allow for 24 VDC continuously at ~200 mA for the solenoid during the cycle - derate above 40 degC.
