Product Overview

The Omron D4NL-1AFG-B is a guard-lock safety-door switch for machine guards that must stay locked while a hazardous state persists. A spring inside the head holds the operation key captive (door mechanically locked) when the solenoid is OFF. Energising the 24 VDC solenoid releases the key and lets the door open. If power is lost, the door stays locked — the safe failure mode for any guard that protects against stored energy.

Decoding the D4NL-1AFG-B suffix

The model code breaks down as: 1 = one conduit entry, A = mechanical lock with solenoid release (power-to-lock safe-failure type), F = door-position contact, G = lock-monitor contact (1NC/1NO + 1NC/1NO = four contacts), B = Pg13.5 conduit. The B4 suffix is the same switch in 1/2-14 NPT; the BS suffix is the M20 version. Use the B (Pg13.5) variant for European-style cable glands — the most common stock for CJ1 / NJ / NX safety controllers.

Where the D4NL-1AFG-B fits

D4NL switches belong on doors that must stay locked during a hazardous state — robot cells with residual stored energy, presses that cannot be interrupted mid-stroke, CNC enclosures with a moving spindle, palletiser fence gates with long run-down times. The lock-monitor contact (1NC/1NO) feeds back to the safety controller so it can prove the door is locked before allowing motion to start, satisfying category-3 / PL d and category-4 / PL e circuits per EN ISO 13849-1.

Before ordering

Order the matching D4NL operation key separately — the switch ships without one. The key type depends on door swing direction and whether the guard is sliding or hinged. Holding force is 1,300 N, well above the EN ISO 14119 minimum of 1,000 N for category-3 and category-4 circuits. Plan a 24 VDC supply sized for the solenoid inrush (about 200 mA continuous per switch).

Key Features

  • Mechanical lock with 24 VDC solenoid release — safe failure on power loss
  • 1,300 N minimum holding force (EN ISO 14119-compliant for Cat 3 / Cat 4)
  • Four contacts: 1NC/1NO door-monitor + 1NC/1NO lock-monitor
  • Pg13.5 conduit entry (the B suffix)
  • Head rotatable 360° in 90° steps for any door swing direction
  • IP67 sealed against water and oil ingress
  • Direct-opening NC contacts per IEC 60947-5-1
  • SKU: D4NL-1AFG-B
  • Series: D4NL guard-lock safety-door switch
  • Voltage: 24 VDC

Best-Fit Applications

  • Robot cells with residual stored energy that must stay locked during a stop
  • Press guards that cannot be opened mid-cycle
  • CNC machine enclosure doors with a moving spindle
  • Palletiser fence gates with long run-down time after stop
  • Category 3 / PL d or Category 4 / PL e guard doors on automated lines

Buying Checklist

  • Choose D4NL-1AFG-B for mechanical-lock / solenoid-release (power-to-lock safe-failure); pick D4NL-1BFG-B if you need power-to-unlock (solenoid lock) instead.
  • Order the matching D4NL operation key separately — the switch ships without one and the key type depends on door swing direction.
  • Plan a 24 VDC supply sized for the solenoid inrush of about 200 mA per switch.
  • Wire the lock-monitor NC contact into the safety circuit so the controller can prove the door is locked before allowing motion to start.
  • Pick the B4 (1/2-14 NPT) or BS (M20) suffix instead of the B (Pg13.5) if your panel uses North American or metric-only cable glands.

FAQ for D4NL-1AFG-B

What is the difference between D4NL-1AFG-B and D4NL-1BFG-B?
D4NL-1AFG-B is mechanical lock with solenoid release — the door is locked when the solenoid is OFF (power-to-lock, safe-failure). D4NL-1BFG-B is solenoid lock with mechanical release — the door is unlocked when the solenoid is OFF (power-to-unlock, for guards where people must be able to escape during a power failure).
What operation key does the D4NL-1AFG-B need?
The D4NL-1AFG-B ships without an operation key. Order a D4NL-K* key separately — the exact part number depends on the door swing direction (top, side, bottom insertion) and whether the guard is hinged or sliding. Check the D4NL family catalog for the key matrix.
What is the holding force of the D4NL-1AFG-B?
1,300 N minimum per the Omron datasheet. That is well above the EN ISO 14119 minimum of 1,000 N for category-3 and category-4 safety circuits.
Is the D4NL-1AFG-B IP67 rated?
Yes — the switch body is IP67 per EN 60947-5-1 (water and oil ingress protection). Note that the operation key insertion slot is IP00 and must be kept free of debris that could prevent the key from seating fully.
