The E2B-S08KS02-MC-B1 is the 2 mm shielded inductive proximity sensor in Omron's E2B cylindrical M8 line, with a stainless-steel housing that survives coolants, oils, and aggressive cleaning chemicals better than the brass-housed E2B-M12 / E2B-M18 siblings. It detects ferrous metal targets at up to 2 mm with no physical contact, using a high-frequency oscillating coil in the sensing face and a trigger circuit that switches the output transistor when eddy-current losses in the target exceed the threshold. The M8 (8 mm) thread is the smallest cylindrical format in the E2B family — the right pick for position confirmation on miniature pneumatic cylinders, end-of-stroke detection on small slides, and tool-presence detection on compact machining centres.
The E2B family is Omron's value-tier cylindrical proximity sensor line, with four thread sizes (M8, M12, M18, M30), two housing materials (S = stainless steel, M = nickel-brass), shielded and unshielded variants, four output types (PNP NO, PNP NC, NPN NO, NPN NC), and four connection methods (M8 connector, M12 connector, pre-wired cable 2 m, pre-wired cable 5 m). For the M8 stainless tier: S08KS01-MC-B1 = 1.5 mm shielded single, S08KS02-MC-B1 = 2 mm shielded single (this SKU), S08KN04-MC-B1 = 4 mm unshielded single distance.
The M8 3-pin connector pinout is the industry standard: pin 1 = brown = Vcc (10 to 30 VDC), pin 3 = blue = 0 V, pin 4 = black = output (PNP sourcing). Wire the matching XS3F-M8-3 connector cable (sold separately) to your PLC's 24 VDC supply and a digital input card; PNP sensors source current into a sourcing-input PLC card, which is what CJ2, NX, and NJ series PLCs expect.
The M8 stainless housing is rated IP67 (submersible to 1 m for 30 minutes) and tested against industrial coolants, cutting oils, and common cleaning chemicals. Operating temperature is -25 to +70 °C, suitable for most factory environments including outdoor panels without additional heating. The stainless body also resists mechanical impact better than brass — the housing dents only under sustained mechanical abuse, while brass may deform under repeated impact. Total length is 44 mm with a 27 mm thread length; the sensor face protrudes only a few millimetres, making it suitable for low-clearance installations.
