Product Overview

The E2E-X2ME1 is a small 8 mm threaded inductive proximity sensor for short-range metal detection. It senses a target up to 2 mm away, runs on 12 to 24 VDC, and switches 200 mA through an NPN transistor that pulls low when a target is present. A yellow LED on the housing lights up the moment the output turns on, so you can confirm detection during commissioning without a meter.

Where it fits

Pick the E2E-X2ME1 for tight-clearance installs: small pneumatic cylinders, vibratory bowl feeders, indexing tables, and screw or bolt detection on automotive lines. Use a non-metal mounting bracket so the barrel sides do not trigger on the bracket itself, and aim the target head-on at the front face. The 2 m PVC cable exits axially from the rear and is rated for typical cabinet routing; the IP67 housing survives coolant splash and outdoor wash-down when mounted vertically.

Sibling sizes in the E2E range

The E2E short-barrel range covers M8, M12, M18, and M30 sizes with NPN or PNP, NO or NC outputs, in pre-wired or connector versions. The E2E-X2ME1 is the M8 NPN-NO with a 2 m cable. For PNP, use E2E-X2MF1; for a connectorised M8 that lets you swap cables without re-wiring, use E2E-X2ME1-M1; for a longer 5 mm reach, step up to the M12 E2E-X5ME1.

Before ordering or installing

Confirm the target distance is within 0 to 1.6 mm and the target is at least 8 × 8 mm of flat steel. Mount in a non-metal bracket and aim the target head-on. Match the output to your PLC: NPN for CP1L-DC or CP2E-N20 inputs in sourcing mode; PNP for inputs in sinking mode.

FAQ for E2E-X2ME1

Is the E2E-X2ME1 M8 or M12?
M8. The 'M' after 'X2' in E2E-X2ME1 means M8 barrel. An M12 sensor in the same family would have an extra digit, like E2E-X5ME1 (M12) or E2E-X8MD1 (M18). If a quote or invoice says M12 for this SKU, double-check the part number.
Can it detect stainless steel or aluminium?
Yes, but at a shorter range than the rated 2 mm. Stainless steel drops the range by about 10 to 20 percent, aluminium by 30 to 50 percent, copper and brass by roughly half. For aluminium-only targets, plan on a 1 mm working distance or step up to an M12 E2E-X5ME1.
Can I extend the 2 m cable?
Short extensions are fine. NPN sensors tolerate cable extensions up to about 50 m without issue. For longer runs, use the connectorised E2E-X2ME1-M1 with a heavier shielded cable. If the supply voltage at the sensor end dips below 10 VDC, the output becomes unreliable — check voltage under load before commissioning.
How do I wire it to a CP1L or CP2E PLC?
Brown to +24 V, blue to 0 V, black to the PLC input terminal. On a CP1L-DC or CP2E-N20DR-D, the input COM/SS terminal goes to +24 V (sourcing input mode). The sensor then pulls the input low when it detects a target, giving you a true input bit. If your PLC wants PNP inputs only, swap to the E2E-X2MF1.
