Product Overview

The Omron E32-C91N 2M is a single-head diffuse-reflective fiber optic cable in the E32 family. One head does both the emitting and receiving -- it shines light out, the target bounces some of it back, and the amplifier (sold separately) registers the detection. The head is M3 threaded and ships with a nickel-plated brass nut and washer, so it mounts into a thin bracket, a small nozzle, or a sensor holder next to a feeder track. The 2 m fiber is plastic and free-cut, so the cable run back to the amplifier can be trimmed short on site if needed.

Why a fiber cable rather than a built-in sensor

The E32 cable is one half of a sensing system. The other half is an E3X-series fiber amplifier, which carries the light source, the photodetector, the sensitivity adjustment, and the output transistor. Order both parts -- the E32-C91N as the remote sensing head and the amplifier as the DIN-rail brain -- when the install needs the sensor head to fit somewhere a standard M18 or M30 barrel physically cannot, or when the sensing distance and reflectivity call for a tuned amplifier.

Picking through-beam vs reflective here

The C9x in the model code means diffuse-reflective (single head, target must reflect light back). If the install needs through-beam (separate emitter + receiver across a gap, with a target breaking the beam), pick a T1x or T2x through-beam fiber instead -- an E32-T11N for an M3 through-beam set, or an E32-T21N for the M4 size. The through-beam set is two cables, not one. The reflective C91N is one cable.

Before ordering

The amplifier is a separate line item. For most panels the E3X-NA11 2M or E3X-NA41 2M basic amplifier is the right match; for setting-via-teach-button panels pick the E3X-SD or E3X-HD; for a simple two-output build the E3X-ZV11 sits well. The fiber head mounting hole is M3 +0.5 mm; tighten the brass nut to about 0.78 N.m max. Do not bend the fiber below R25 mm -- the plastic fiber breaks and light output drops sharply.

Key Features

  • E32-series diffuse-reflective fiber optic cable (single-head reflective)
  • M3 threaded head with nickel-plated brass nut and washer included
  • Coaxial fiber core for stable small-target pickup
  • 2 m PVC-jacketed plastic fiber, free-cutting on site
  • Plastic fiber, light weight, immune to electrical noise
  • Permissible bending radius R25 mm (smaller bends break the fiber)
  • Operating temperature -40 to +70 deg C (fiber head / cable section)
  • Pairs with E3X-NA / E3X-SD / E3X-HD / E3X-ZV / E3X-DA fiber amplifiers (sold separately)
  • Sensing distance set by the chosen amplifier, not by this cable
  • SKU: E32-C91N 2M
  • Series: E32-C91N

Best-Fit Applications

  • Small-target presence detection on a feeder track or escapement where an M18 barrel is too large
  • Liquid-level detection inside a small transparent tube (with the matching E39-RP reflectors where needed)
  • PCB-component presence check on a pick-and-place station with a 5 to 30 mm target distance
  • Label-edge detection on a transparent or printed web where a coaxial fiber helps ignore background
  • Tight-mount retrofit for a panel already using E3X-NA / E3X-SD amplifiers but needing a different head form

Buying Checklist

  • Pick E32-C91N 2M for a 2 m M3 diffuse-reflective head -- order the amplifier separately.
  • Pick an E3X-NA11 2M or E3X-NA41 2M basic amplifier to pair with the cable for most panel setups.
  • Pick E32-T11N instead when the install needs through-beam (separate emitter + receiver pair).
  • Pick E32-C11N for an M6 thread head in the same reflective family, or E32-C21N for the right-angle M3.
  • Pick E32-C31N for a tighter bend radius (down to R1 mm) on a more congested cable run.
  • Order the fiber amplifier at the same time -- this cable does not function without one.

FAQ for E32-C91N 2M

Does E32-C91N 2M work without an amplifier?
No. The E32-C91N is only the passive fiber cable. It carries the light from the amplifier's LED to the target and back, but it carries no electronics of its own. To get a usable output, pair it with an E3X-series amplifier (the E3X-NA11 2M, E3X-ZV11, or E3X-HD are the common picks). The amplifier carries the light source, sensitivity adjustment, indicator LED, and switching output.
Is the E32-C91N through-beam or reflective?
Diffuse-reflective. A single head does both the emitting and receiving -- the light shines out, the target reflects some of it back into the same fiber, and the amplifier registers the detection. If the install needs a separate emitter + receiver pair across a gap, pick a T1x or T2x through-beam fiber (E32-T11N, E32-T21N) -- the model code letter ('T' vs 'C') tells the principle at a glance.
How small a target can E32-C91N 2M detect?
The headline figure depends on the amplifier, the target's color and reflectivity, and the set distance. With an E3X-NA amplifier on standard sensitivity the E32-C91N typically picks up a 0.05 mm dia. opaque wire at close range; the coaxial core helps stabilize small-target pickup. For very small targets at longer distance, add an E39-F3 lens attachment to focus the spot.
Can I shorten the E32-C91N 2 m cable?
Yes -- the 'free-cutting' label in the catalog means exactly that. Use a sharp blade to cut the fiber square (not angled) at the new end face, then insert the trimmed end into the amplifier's fiber lock. Do not bend the cable tighter than R25 mm; tighter bends cause internal fiber breaks and the amplifier will not pick up return light reliably.
