Product Overview
The Omron E3FA-DP13 is a diffuse-reflective photoelectric sensor in the E3FA family, with a 1 m sensing range on white paper and a PNP output on an M12 4-pin connector. The 'DP' marks diffuse / PNP, and the '13' suffix is Omron's 1 m / M12 code, distinguishing it from the 100 mm (DP11), 300 mm (DP21 / DP12), and shorter-range M12 siblings in the E3FA family. The M18 ABS body carries a bright red LED emitter, a large sturdy sensitivity knob, and a visible orange LED for power and output status. It is the standard pick for short- to mid-range part detection on conveyors, feeders, and small assembly stations where an M12 patch cord is preferred.
Why diffuse reflective at 1 m
Diffuse-reflective sensors detect light reflected off the target, so they only need wiring on one side and no reflector opposite the sensor. The 1 m range is the right point for detecting a part on a 600-800 mm wide conveyor, a workpiece on a small index table, or a board exiting a feeder. Targets outside the rated 1 m window may still trigger if highly reflective, so for shiny or mirror-like surfaces the BGS E3Z-LL or a retro-reflective sensor is usually a better fit.
Choosing the right E3FA diffuse variant
E3FA-DP13 is the 1 m PNP M12 version. The 300 mm PNP pre-wired sibling is E3FA-DP12, and the 300 mm PNP M12 sibling is E3FA-DP21. The NPN twin at 300 mm pre-wired is E3FA-DN12. The through-beam pair in the same family is the E3FA-T series. Pick the E3FA-DP13 when 1 m range, PNP output, and an M12 patch cord are the goal.
Before ordering
Set the sensitivity so the target reads strong at the actual installation distance, not at the rated 1 m. Allow for a 30-50% derating on dark or matte surfaces, since the 1 m spec is on white paper. Pick an XS2F-M12 / M12-4A patch cord in the right length. For IP69K washdown environments, move to the E3FB series, the stainless steel M18 equivalent.

Buying Checklist
- Choose E3FA-DP13 for 1 m range, PNP, and an M12 patch cord.
- Choose E3FA-DP12 for 300 mm range with a pre-wired 2 m cable.
- Choose E3FA-DN12 for 300 mm range in NPN with a pre-wired cable.
- Choose E3FA-DP21 for 300 mm range in PNP with an M12 connector.
- Choose the stainless E3FB series when the panel needs IP69K washdown.
- Confirm the actual sensing distance against target colour and reflectivity.
