Product Overview

The Omron E3JK-TR11-C is the 40 m red-LED through-beam pair in the E3JK compact family. It is two separate heads -- an emitter and a receiver -- that mount on opposite sides of a conveyor, lane, or guard opening, and it closes a SPDT relay contact when the beam is intact (or when it is broken, depending on the rear switch position). The 40 m range covers the long spans where a diffuse-reflective or retro-reflective sensor would not reach: wide carton lanes, pallet-transfer points, large door interlock spans, and boundary detection on long production cells.

Why the relay output matters here

Pick the E3JK-TR11-C (relay output) instead of the E3JK-TP11-C / E3JK-TN11-C (transistor output) siblings when the load is a contactor coil, a small motor starter, an indicator lamp, or a PLC input that the same sensor must drive directly. The SPDT relay contact switches up to 250 VAC 3 A resistive or 30 VDC 3 A resistive without an interposing relay. Pick the TP11 / TN11 transistor siblings instead when the sensor feeds only a fast PLC high-speed input -- the relay's 20 ms response is too slow for a 1 kHz+ count input.

Free-voltage supply for any cabinet

The AC/DC 24-240 V free-voltage supply accepts the same wiring on a 24 VDC cabinet, a 120 VAC control panel, and a 240 VAC European-style cabinet. The trade-off is the AC/DC spike sensitivity -- route the sensor cable away from VFD output cables and from the inverter's braking-resistor leads, since the optical receiver is rated at 3,000 lx incandescent / 11,000 lx sunlight ambient tolerance and a heavy switching transient on the supply line can false-trigger the relay.

Before ordering

The E39-L40 right-angle bracket is already in the box (the -C suffix is the bundle). For the retro-reflective E3JK family, add the E39-R1 reflector or the E39-R2 long-range reflector. The TR11-C ships as a pair (E3JK-TR11-L emitter + E3JK-TR11-D receiver); the bare E3JK-TR11 without the -C ships as the pair only, no bracket.

What is the actual sensing range of the E3JK-TR11-C?
40 m on a red 624 nm LED. The 15 m figure sometimes seen on older datasheets is not correct for this SKU -- the 5 m short-range red-LED model is the E3JK-TR12-C, and the 40 m IR model is the E3JK-TR13. Pick the TR11-C for the long span, the TR12-C for the short span.
What is the difference between E3JK-TR11 and E3JK-TR11-C?
The C suffix is the bundle code: the E3JK-TR11-C ships with one E39-L40 right-angle mounting bracket in the box. The bare E3JK-TR11 ships as the sensor pair only. Both have the same 40 m red-LED, SPDT relay, AC/DC 24-240 V specifications -- the bracket is the only difference. Order the -C if you do not already have the E39-L40 in stock; order the bare SKU if your cabinet already has the bracket on the shelf.
Can the E3JK-TR11-C feed a PLC high-speed counter?
Not directly -- the SPDT relay has a 20 ms response time, which caps the count speed at about 25 counts per second. For high-speed count inputs pick the E3JK-TP11-C (PNP) or E3JK-TN11-C (NPN) transistor-output siblings, which respond in 1 ms or less. The relay output is for switching contactor coils, motor starters, indicator lamps, and PLC discrete inputs that do not need high speed.
Does the E3JK-TR11-C work on a 24 VDC cabinet?
Yes. The AC/DC 24-240 V free-voltage supply accepts the same 24 VDC, 120 VAC, and 240 VAC inputs on the same two terminals. The only cabinet concern is the AC-line transient -- route the sensor cable away from VFD output cables and from the inverter's braking-resistor leads, since the optical receiver's 3,000 lx incandescent / 11,000 lx sunlight ambient tolerance does not protect against conducted EMI on the supply line.
