Product Overview

The Omron E3T-ST11 2M is the Light-ON half of the E3T through-beam pair — an emitter and a receiver shipped in matched ultra-thin ABS housings, each 20 mm wide x 12 mm tall x 31 mm long, with 2 m pre-wired leads. The pair covers 1 m on a 2 mm opaque target and runs from a single 12 to 24 VDC supply. The head is small enough to mount inside a feeder track, a slide gate, or a small-part escapement where a standard M18 through-beam barrel physically does not fit.

What the Light-ON / Dark-ON choice actually means

The ST11 is Light-ON — its NPN output conducts when the emitter's red 650 nm beam reaches the receiver (no target in the gap). The ST12 is the identical sensor in Dark-ON mode (output ON when the beam is broken). Pick ST11 for a 'beam intact = run, beam broken = stop' arrangement such as a safety gate monitor. Pick ST12 for the more common 'part present = output on' wiring on a conveyor or pickup station. Both halves draw DC 12-24 V and carry 50 mA sink loads.

When to use the E3T over a bigger through-beam

Pick the E3T when the bracket or the panel cutout physically cannot take an M18 barrel (E3FA-TP11 2M at 15 m) or a square M18 cube (E3S series). The 1 m range is the headline sacrifice — the E3T is a tight-space sensor, not a long-distance beam. If the install is wider than 1 m and you need a small head, the E3T-ST13 covers 5 m in the same ultra-thin housing. For reflective (single-head) mounts the E3T-FD11 covers up to 100 mm diffuse-reflective and the E3T-FL22 covers 5-30 mm BGS-style convergent-reflective in the same slim line.

Before ordering

Order one SKU and you get a matched emitter + receiver pair. Confirm the supply is regulated 12 to 24 VDC and the load does not exceed 50 mA at 26.4 VDC (the NPN open-collector sink). Pre-wired 2 m is fine for most panel-mount installs; for M12 or M8 quick-disconnects, the E3T-ST11-M1TJ and E3T-ST11-M3J ship with pigtails at the same 1 m range.

FAQ for E3T-ST11 2M

Is the E3T-ST11 2M a fiber-optic sensor?
No. The E3T is a self-contained ultra-thin through-beam photoelectric pair with built-in emitter and receiver. It is not a fiber-optic amplifier and does not accept E32-series fiber-optic cables. If you need a fiber-optic amplifier to read a remote through-beam or reflective fiber head, look at the E3X-NA41 2M (NPN fiber amp) or the E3X-SD / E3X-HD high-function amplifiers instead.
What is the difference between E3T-ST11 and E3T-ST12?
Both are 1 m range, NPN output, ultra-thin through-beam pairs with the same head and cable. ST11 is Light-ON (output conducts when the beam reaches the receiver, no target in the gap). ST12 is Dark-ON (output conducts when the beam is blocked by a target). Most conveyor and pick-and-place applications need Dark-ON (ST12); safety gates and 'beam intact = run' setups use Light-ON (ST11). Same supply, same load, same response, same head — only the logic is flipped.
How small an object can E3T-ST11 detect?
The standard target rating is opaque 2 mm dia. or larger at the rated 1 m range. Smaller targets may pass through the beam without blocking enough light to register reliably, especially at the far end of the range. For very small targets (under 2 mm) close to the receiver, switch to the E3T-FL22 convergent-reflective sensor with a 5-30 mm focal range and a focused spot.
Can I extend the E3T-ST11 2M cable?
Yes, with a normal 2-core (emitter) or 3-core (receiver) shielded cable. Keep the run under around 10 m or the residual voltage plus cable impedance starts to lift and the NPN output may not close reliably at the rated 26.4 VDC. For longer runs, switch to the E3T-ST11-M1TJ (M12 4-pin) or E3T-ST11-M3J (M8 4-pin) variant and use a standard sensor extension cordset.
