Product Overview

The E3X-NA41 2M is the PNP-output variant of the E3X-NA standard series. The 'NA41' code identifies the family: NA = standard (0.2 ms response), 4 = PNP output, 1 = cable connection. So 41 is the PNP cable version, 11 is the NPN cable version, 41F is the PNP high-speed (50 μs) version, and 41V is the PNP water-resistant (IP66) version. The '2M' suffix is the cable length — 2 metres pre-wired. The 'NA' family sits in the middle of Omron's fiber amplifier range: above the older E3X-A (manual only, no timer), below the E3X-DA-N (digital display, push-button teach). For a 0.2 ms response time and a potentiometer for sensitivity adjustment, the NA is the value pick — cheaper than the DA-N but faster than the A series. In a typical installation, the E3X-NA41 2M is the amplifier unit. You also need an E32 fiber head (through-beam, diffuse, retroreflective — sold separately) which is the part that actually sees the target. The amplifier drives the LED in the fiber head, reads the returned light, and switches its PNP output. Up to 5 E3X-NA amplifiers can be mounted side-by-side without mutual interference (Omron's optical communication between amplifiers prevents cross-talk). On the wiring side, the 2m pre-wired cable has 4 conductors: brown (12-24VDC power), blue (0V), black (output), white (Light-ON/Dark-ON selector). PNP output means the amplifier sources current on output — connects to a PLC input that's wired for sinking (NPN-style input). For PNP-input PLCs you'd use the E3X-NA11 (NPN output) instead. The IP50 rating means dust-protected but NOT water-protected. For washdown, the E3X-NA41V is the same amplifier in an IP66 housing. For high-speed parts counting (>5 kHz), the E3X-NA41F gives 50 μs response time. The potentiometer adjustment is 8 turns — for fine-tuning around the threshold, turn slowly and watch the orange indicator LED.

FAQ for E3X-NA41 2M

What's the difference between E3X-NA41 and E3X-NA11?
NA41 is PNP output (sources current); NA11 is NPN output (sinks current). The right pick depends on your PLC's input type. Most modern PLCs (Omron CP1, CJ2, NX) accept both, but the wiring differs — PNP to a sinking input, NPN to a sourcing input. The amplifier body, fiber compatibility, and response time are identical otherwise.
How do I set the sensitivity on the E3X-NA41?
Turn the 8-turn potentiometer on the front face. Watch the orange stability LED — it's lit when the received light is comfortably above the threshold. Turn the pot until the LED just turns on with the target present, then back off until it just turns off. The sweet spot is at the boundary where the LED blinks on the edge between detected and not detected.
Can I use the same E32 fiber head with NPN and PNP amplifiers?
Yes — the fiber head is just a passive light pipe. The amplifier you connect it to can be NA11 (NPN), NA41 (PNP), or any other E3X amplifier. The fiber head doesn't care about output type. So you can swap NPN for PNP by changing the amplifier only, without re-routing fibers.
What does the F suffix mean (E3X-NA41F)?
F = fast response. The NA41F has 50 microsecond response time vs 200 microseconds on the standard NA41. The F variants are for high-speed part counting (typically >5 kHz) or for very small objects passing through the beam at high speed. The trade-off is slightly worse low-contrast detection — pick F only when you need the speed.
