Product Overview

The E3X-ZV11 is the NPN output variant of Omron's E3X-ZV 1-channel Smart Fiber Amplifier family — a cost-optimized amplifier with twin 7-segment display, smart-tuning teach, and a 50 µs response time that makes it the right pick for high-speed counting applications (up to 10 kHz event rates). The amplifier accepts any E32-series fiber-optic cable on the front face and supports through-beam, diffuse, and retro-reflective modes. The NPN open-collector output sinks current (up to 100 mA at 30 VDC) to drive a PLC input, relay coil, or counter directly. The 2 m pre-wired PVC cable terminates at stripped-and-tinned leads (brown = +V, blue = 0 V, black = output, white = not connected).

E3X-ZV vs E3X-HD: when to pick which

The E3X-ZV is positioned below the E3X-HD in the E3X amplifier hierarchy: ZV = cost-optimized 1-channel tier (1 output only), HD = full-functionality 1-channel tier (also 1 output but with more tuning modes), MZV = 2-channel tier (2 outputs + 2 inputs). The ZV has the smart-tuning teach, twin display, and E32 fiber compatibility shared with HD; what the ZV does NOT have: (1) external trigger input (only on E3X-MZV@2 series); (2) high-sensitivity mode and APC (auto-power-control, only on HD); (3) EtherCAT/CompoNet communication adapter support (the HD supports the E3X-ECT, the ZV does not).

50 µs response time — where this matters

The 50 µs (0.05 ms) response time gives a maximum counting rate of 10,000 pulses/sec on a 50 % duty-cycle — twice the speed of the older E3X-NA amplifier, and on par with dedicated high-speed photoelectric counters. Real-world uses: small-part counting on a high-speed filling line (5,000+ parts/min), label-edge detection at high conveyor speeds (10 m/s), pin-marking registration at high production rates (300 ppm stamping line), PCB component presence verification at placement-head rates (50,000+ placements/hr). The output pulse width is also 50 µs minimum — narrow pulses must be widened by the receiving PLC or counter.

Smart tuning, 1-channel operation, and external wiring

Like all E3X-ZV amplifiers, the ZV11 supports one-button smart tuning with the SET button — point the fiber at the target, press SET; point at the background, press SET; the threshold is auto-set at the midpoint. The Light-ON / Dark-ON mode is selected via a separate push button on the front face. The amplifier has 1 output (NPN, sinking) on the pre-wired cable's black conductor. There is no separate external trigger input on the 1-channel ZV@ models — if you need external trigger (e.g. conveyor-encoder synchronization), step up to the 2-channel E3X-MZV@2 series. There is no EtherCAT or CompoNet communication support on any ZV variant.
