The Omron E3Z-B61 2M is a compact retro-reflective photoelectric sensor tuned to detect clear PET bottles and other thin transparent objects that a standard retro sensor would miss. It works with the E39-R1S reflector at a 500 mm range and uses a red LED for a visible aiming spot. The NPN open-collector output drops current on detect, with Light-ON / Dark-ON selectable on the rear switch. The 2 m pre-wired oil-resistant PVC cable lands directly on a terminal block or PLC input module without needing a separate patch cord. Why E3Z-B rather than E3Z-R for PET bottles
A polarised retro sensor (E3Z-R) uses a polarising filter to ignore mirror reflection from shiny surfaces — but that filter also lowers sensitivity on a clear bottle, where the small amount of light that makes it back through the wall is the signal. The E3Z-B uses no polarising filter and is tuned to the small refractive change that a clear PET wall produces, so it detects reliably without being fooled by a background reflector.
Before ordering
Pair with an E39-R1S reflector for 500 mm range. Confirm the cable gland accepts the 4-wire 2 m oil-resistant PVC cable, or pick the M8-connector sibling E3Z-B86. Allow 100 mm minimum reflector distance for stable PET detection. For shiny labels, the E3Z-R MSR sensor is a better fit.

What is the difference between E3Z-B61 2M and E3Z-B86?
Both are the same E3Z-B clear-PET sensor with a 500 mm range on the E39-R1S reflector. E3Z-B61 2M is the NPN pre-wired 2 m version. E3Z-B86 is the PNP M8 4-pin connector version. Pick the B61 2M for direct panel wiring and an NPN sinking input; pick the B86 for a sourcing PLC input and a quick-disconnect patch cord.
Why is the E3Z-B special for PET bottles?
A standard retro-reflective sensor relies on the target blocking the beam from the reflector. A clear PET wall lets most of the light through, so a standard retro treats it as 'no object'. The E3Z-B uses a special optical filter and threshold that responds to the small refractive change at the bottle wall, so it consistently detects a clear PET bottle without being fooled by the reflector behind it.
What reflector does the E3Z-B61 2M need?
Use the standard E39-R1S reflector (or E39-R1) for a 500 mm range. The 'B' series is factory-tuned against the standard E39-R1S spectral response.
