Product Overview
The Omron E3Z-D62 is a long-range diffuse-reflective photoelectric sensor in the E3Z cuboid family, with a rated sensing distance of 1 m on 300 × 300 mm white paper. It detects objects by bouncing its own infrared light off the target, so it only needs to be mounted on one side of the conveyor or machine. The NPN open-collector output and the pre-wired 2 m cable make it the standard pick for cabinets with NPN (sinking) PLC inputs — typically Japanese-built controllers and older CJ-series racks.
Choosing this vs the other E3Z diffuse siblings
Pick E3Z-D62 (this SKU) when you need 1 m reach with an NPN output and a pre-wired cable. Pick E3Z-D82 if your PLC inputs are PNP — same 1 m range and infrared LED, just a sourcing output. Pick E3Z-D67 when you'd rather have an M8 quick-disconnect than a fixed cable. Pick E3Z-D61 for the short-range 100 mm version with a red LED — better for small parts on a feeder track where a long beam would reach past the target. For detecting glossy or transparent objects (bottles, clear film), swap to a polarized retro-reflective sensor (E3Z-R61) or a through-beam pair (E3Z-T81).
Before ordering
Set the sensitivity with the single-turn potentiometer on the back during commissioning. The rated 1 m range applies to 300 × 300 mm white paper; dark, glossy, or angled targets can cut that to 500 mm or less. The output is NPN open collector, rated 100 mA — wire it into an NPN (sinking) PLC input or a relay coil. For a PNP input card, choose the E3Z-D82 instead. IP67 means it tolerates coolant splash and dust, but the lens face still needs a wipe-down once a month on dirty lines.
Key Features
- 1 m sensing distance on 300 × 300 mm white paper (long-range diffuse variant)
- Infrared LED light source (860 nm) — invisible beam for clean-looking installations
- NPN open-collector output, switchable Light-ON / Dark-ON
- Pre-wired 2 m cable — lowest cost for fixed installations
- Manual sensitivity adjustment via single-turn pot on the back
- 100 mA load current at 12-24 VDC supply
- IP67 protection; PBT housing tolerates coolant splash and most oils
- 1 ms response time — fine for typical conveyor counting
- Compact cuboid body: 20 × 33.2 × 10.8 mm
- Orange operation LED on top for at-a-glance status
- SKU: E3Z-D62
- Series: E3Z-D62
- Voltage: 12-24 VDC
Best-Fit Applications
- Carton or pallet presence detection on 0.5–1 m conveyor lines
- Box-level check at the infeed or outfeed of a packaging machine
- Count trigger generation on a parts-feeder between stations
- Tray-loading verification at the end of a packaging line
- Stack-height presence check on a palletizer discharge conveyor
Buying Checklist
- Pick E3Z-D62 (this SKU) for 1 m diffuse-reflective with an NPN output and pre-wired 2 m cable
- Pick E3Z-D82 for the same 1 m range with a PNP output (sourcing) for PNP PLC inputs
- Pick E3Z-D67 for 1 m diffuse-reflective NPN with an M8 quick-disconnect connector
- Pick E3Z-D61 for the short-range 100 mm version (red LED) for small parts on a feeder
- Pick E3Z-R61 for retro-reflective detection of glossy or transparent targets
- Confirm your PLC input type is NPN (sinking) before choosing this SKU
