Product Overview

The Omron E5CC-QX2ASM-802 is a 48×48 mm digital PID temperature controller in the E5CC family. It fits the standard 1/16 DIN panel cutout used on most compact machine panels and uses a 15.2 mm-tall white PV display so the process value stays readable from across the cabinet. It accepts a universal input — thermocouple, Pt100, ES1B infrared, or analog (4-20 mA, 1-5 V, 0-10 V). Control output 1 drives an SSR (G3PX or G3NA-D series). Two auxiliary outputs handle alarms, one event input accepts a RUN/STOP contact, and RS-485 communication is fitted. It is the standard pick for compact-panel temperature control on packaging, sealing, and small oven zones where an SSR-driven electric heater needs clean PID control.

Where it fits in the E5_C family

The E5_C family splits by size and panel cutout. E5CC is the 48×48 mm body with screw terminals. E5EC is 48×96 mm. E5AC is 96×96 mm. E5DC is the 22.5 mm-wide model that still drops into a 48×48 mm cutout. Within the E5CC-800 family, E5CC-QX2ASM-802 is the voltage-output 2-aux RS-485 + event-input variant on AC100-240 V. E5CC-QX2DSM-802 is the same controller on AC/DC 24 V. The E5CC-RX2ASM-802 sibling swaps the SSR-drive output for a relay. Pick it when an SSR-driven heater, RS-485 to a PLC, and an event-input switch are the goal.

Why voltage (SSR-drive) output rather than relay

A relay output switches ON/OFF, which causes process oscillation on fast electric heaters because of mechanical cycle limits. A voltage output drives the SSR in proportion to PID demand; the G3PX or G3NA-D SSR then switches the load at zero-cross. Use the two auxiliary outputs for upper and lower alarms, not for proportional load switching.

Before ordering

Confirm the input matches the field sensor — TC polarity, 2- or 3-wire RTD, or analog loop. Wire the voltage output to the SSR control input and the event input to a dry contact (no external voltage). Set RS-485 to 9600 bps half-duplex with a unique unit number before connecting to a CP1L / CP2E / NJ PLC. Use CX-Thermo via the front port for setup and auto-tuning.

Buying Checklist

  • Choose E5CC-QX2ASM-802 for voltage SSR-drive output and RS-485 on AC100-240 V.
  • Choose E5CC-QX2DSM-802 for the same controller on AC/DC 24 V supply.
  • Choose E5CC-RX2ASM-802 for relay output instead of SSR drive.
  • Choose E5CC-QX2AUM-000 if RS-485 and the event input are not needed.
  • Choose E5AC-CX3ASM-804 for a 96×96 mm body when the larger cutout is open.
  • Confirm the sensor type (TC, Pt100, ES1B, analog) matches the field wiring.

FAQ for E5CC-QX2ASM-802

What is the difference between E5CC-QX2ASM-802 and E5CC-RX2ASM-802?
Both are 48×48 mm E5CC-800 controllers with two aux outputs and RS-485 on AC100-240 V. The Q version has a voltage output for driving an SSR; the R version has a relay output for switching the load directly. Pick Q for fast ON/OFF switching with a G3PX / G3NA-D SSR; pick R for a low-cycle direct drive where the relay contact life is acceptable.
What sensor inputs does E5CC-QX2ASM-802 accept?
It accepts any thermocouple in the E5_C list (K, J, T, E, L, U, N, R, S, B, W), Pt100 or JPt100 RTD in 2- or 3-wire, the ES1B non-contact infrared sensor, or a 4-20 mA / 0-20 mA / 1-5 V / 0-5 V / 0-10 V analog signal. Switch between them in the parameter menu, so one controller can run different zones on the same machine.
How does the voltage (SSR-drive) output work?
The voltage output terminal provides a 12 VDC pulsed signal that drives the control input of a zero-cross SSR (G3PX, G3NA-D, etc.). The SSR then switches the load at line frequency zero-cross, which is the right pick for electric heaters where mechanical relay cycling would cause process instability.
