Product Overview

The Omron E5CC-RX2ASM-802 is the 48x48 mm (1/16 DIN) PID temperature controller in the E5CC lineup. The face is 48 x 48 mm with a 15.2 mm-tall white PV display, four front buttons, and an IP66 panel seal; the body is 60 mm deep and fits the standard 45 x 45 mm panel cutout. The bare R suffix means a single SPDT relay control output -- this is the SKU for ON/OFF or PID switching of a contactor, SSR, or alarm horn, NOT a linear 4-20 mA valve actuator. The X2 suffix adds two independent relay aux outputs, and the 802 suffix adds RS-485 CompoWay/F communication plus two event inputs plus one heater-burnout CT input.

What the -802 options actually do

RS-485 CompoWay/F serial ties the controller into a Modbus-friendly polling network with other E5_C / E5_C-T / EJ1 units, an NJ/NX PLC, or a SCADA package. The two event inputs let an external dry contact or PNP signal switch the controller between RUN and STOP, between auto and manual, or between two stored setpoints -- useful for day / night setpoint switching on a packaging line. The one heater-burnout CT input watches the current through a 1-phase heater and trips an alarm if the SSR or the heater element fails open.

Choosing the right output type

Pick the E5CC-RX2ASM-802 (this SKU) when the load is a mechanical relay or contactor coil, an SSR driven by the relay's dry contact, or a low-voltage alarm horn. Pick the E5CC-QX2ASM-802 (voltage output for SSR drive) when the load is a solid-state relay with a DC logic input and the cycle time is faster than the relay's 100,000-operation life allows. Pick the E5CC-CX2ASM-802 (current 4-20 mA output) when the load is a proportional valve or a phase-angle-fired thyristor that needs a linear setpoint signal.

Before ordering

Confirm the supply is AC 100-240 V -- for an AC/DC 24 V cabinet, order the matching E5CC-RX2DSM-802 instead. Confirm the panel cutout is 45 x 45 mm -- a 48 x 96 mm cutout needs the E5EC, and a 96 x 96 mm cutout needs the E5AC. Add the E58-CIFQ1 USB-serial conversion cable for CX-Thermo programming from a PC.

Best-Fit Applications

  • Heater-band temperature control on plastic-extrusion dies with SSR drive via the aux output
  • Packaging-line heat-seal jaw regulation with auto-tuning PID
  • Oven / furnace temperature control with alarm and event-based setpoint switching
  • Day / night setpoint switching on a climate chamber via the event input
  • Heater-burnout detection on a sealing bar with the CT input feeding an alarm
  • Multi-controller polling on a Modbus network with CX-Thermo setpoint download from a PC

Buying Checklist

  • Pick E5CC-RX2ASM-802 for a 48x48 mm PID controller with relay output, RS-485, event input, and heater CT on AC 100-240 V.
  • Pick E5CC-QX2ASM-802 instead when the load is a DC-logic SSR (the voltage output is faster cycling than the relay's 100,000-operation life).
  • Pick E5CC-CX2ASM-802 instead when the load is a 4-20 mA proportional valve or phase-angle thyristor.
  • Pick E5CC-RX2DSM-802 for AC/DC 24 V cabinet supply (the D suffix swaps the 100-240 V supply for 24 V).
  • Pick E5EC-PR2ASM-804 when the panel cutout is 48 x 96 mm, and E5AC-CX3ASM-804 for 96 x 96 mm.
  • Add the E58-CIFQ1 USB-serial cable for CX-Thermo PC configuration and parameter cloning between controllers.

FAQ for E5CC-RX2ASM-802

What is the difference between the E5CC, E5EC, and E5AC?
Body size. E5CC is 48 x 48 mm (1/16 DIN) and the most common pick. E5EC is 48 x 96 mm (1/8 DIN) for taller cabinets with a larger display. E5AC is 96 x 96 mm (1/4 DIN) for big process panels. All three share the same PID algorithm, the same RS-485 CompoWay/F protocol on the -800 / -802 / -804 suffix SKUs, and the same CX-Thermo configuration tool. The electronic specs are identical -- the only difference is the front face and the depth.
What does the -802 suffix add over the bare E5CC-RX2ASM-000?
Three things. RS-485 CompoWay/F serial for SCADA / PLC polling. Two event inputs for external RUN/STOP, auto/manual, or setpoint switching. One heater-burnout CT input for 1-phase heater or SSR failure detection. The bare -000 has none of these. The intermediate -801 adds comm only; the -802 is the full set.
Can the relay output drive a 4-20 mA proportional valve?
No. The R suffix means SPDT relay dry contact -- it switches ON or OFF, it does not output a linear 4-20 mA signal. For a proportional valve, step up to the E5CC-CX2ASM-802 (current 4-20 mA output) or the E5CC-CX2ASM-804. For a fast-cycling SSR with a DC logic input, the E5CC-QX2ASM-802 (voltage output for SSR drive) is the faster pick -- the relay's 100,000-operation mechanical life is the limit on cycle speed.
Does the controller need a separate 24 VDC supply for the event inputs?
No. The E5CC powers the event inputs from its own internal supply -- dry-contact or PNP signals from the field land directly on the event-input terminals. The CT input likewise is a passive current transformer input -- the controller reads the AC current through the heater wire without needing a separate 24 VDC rail.
