Product Overview

The Omron EE-SPX613 is a pipe-mount photomicrosensor with a built-in amplifier. It clamps onto a transparent tube and detects the level of liquid inside by sensing the refractive-index difference between air and water — no contact with the fluid itself.

It is sized for tubes with an outer diameter of 6 to 13 mm and a wall thickness of about 1 mm. FEP (fluororesin) tubing works best, but any material as transparent as FEP is acceptable. A sensitivity selector on the unit lets the installer tune the trigger point for the exact tube on the bench, which keeps the swap-out painless when production lines move to a new tube.

The output is NPN open-collector at DC 5 to 24 V / 100 mA, with a slide switch to flip between Light-ON (no liquid) and Dark-ON (with liquid). The body takes 12 to 24 VDC at about 30 mA average and weighs a few grams, so the head sits on the tube without straining the line.

The IR source runs at 940 nm and the indicator LED is red at 700 nm so the trigger is visible across most lab lighting. A 1 m pre-wired oil-resistant cable exits the head; a 5 m version is available as the EE-SPX613 5M. Common fits are bench-top medical analyzers, ink and reagent reservoirs in lab equipment, and cleanroom dispense lines where the engineer wants liquid-level sensing without putting metal or float parts inside the fluid path. Because the tube wall is the only barrier between the head and the fluid, none of the EE-SPX613 SKUs are pressure-rated — verify the tube rating and clamp pressure before fitting into a pressurized line.

Key Features

  • Pipe-mount photomicrosensor with built-in amplifier for liquid level
  • Clamps onto transparent tubes 6 to 13 mm OD, ~1 mm wall
  • FEP / fluororesin tubing preferred; any equivalent-transparent material works
  • Refractive-index optical principle — no contact with the liquid
  • Sensitivity selector adapts to different tube diameters and wall transparency
  • Light-ON (no liquid) / Dark-ON (with liquid) mode switch
  • NPN open-collector output, DC 5 to 24 V / 100 mA, residual 0.8 V max
  • 12 to 24 VDC ±10% supply, 30 mA average / 80 mA peak
  • GaAs IR 940 nm source + red 700 nm operation LED
  • Pre-wired 1 m oil-resistant cable (5 m version is EE-SPX613 5M)
  • Response time about 1 ms
  • Operating temperature -10 to +55 °C, ambient light 3,000 lx max
  • SKU: EE-SPX613
  • Series: EE-series photomicrosensor with built-in amplifier
  • I/O: 5 I/O

Best-Fit Applications

  • Bench-top medical analyzer reagent level in a 6 mm FEP feed line
  • Ink or buffer reservoir level in lab automation dispensers
  • Cleanroom deionized water loop where metal contacts are out
  • Peristaltic-pump feed line where the spare tube length is short
  • Skid-mount pilot plant sense point on a side-arm sight tube

Buying Checklist

  • Pick the EE-SPX613 when the level sense point is on a transparent tube with 6-13 mm OD and you want non-contact detection.
  • Pick the EE-SPX613 5M for a longer 5 m cable when the panel is farther from the sense point.
  • Pick a conductive-probe level controller (61F series) when the tube is opaque metal or plastic — the EE-SPX613 needs a clear tube to see through.
  • Pick a float-style switch when coarse point-level is fine and the install is not cleanroom.
  • Confirm the tube material — FEP works out of the box; for silicone or PVC the sensitivity selector may need to move to LOW for stable readings.
  • Set the mode switch on the bench before mounting — Light-ON or Dark-ON depends on which side of the trigger the alarm logic expects.

FAQ for EE-SPX613

Does the EE-SPX613 contact the liquid?
No. The sensor clamps onto the outside of the tube and detects the liquid by the refractive-index change inside the tube. Nothing touches the fluid, which is why the SPX fits cleanroom and medical analyzer builds.
What tube sizes does the EE-SPX613 fit?
Any tube with an outer diameter between 6 and 13 mm and a wall thickness around 1 mm. FEP (fluororesin) is the preferred material; silicone and PVC also work but may need the sensitivity selector set to LOW for a clean trigger.
Can the EE-SPX613 sense through an opaque tube?
No. The optical method requires a transparent tube. For metal or opaque plastic tanks, use a conductive-probe controller (61F-LS series) or a float switch instead.
How do I read the indicator LED?
The red LED on the unit lights when the optical path detects a clear (no-liquid) condition. With Light-ON selected, the output also turns ON at the same time — useful for diagnosing the trigger during commissioning.
