Product Overview

The EE-SX670 is the standard-body model of Omron's EE-SX67 family — a fixed-gap slot photomicrosensor with a U-shaped body, 5 mm slot width, and a system connector on the rear of the unit. The slot houses an infrared LED on one side and a phototransistor on the other; any opaque part passing through the slot blocks the beam and toggles the output. The 25.4 × 22.2 mm rectangular PBT body has 2 mm mounting holes on each side and snaps directly to the EE-1001 connector harness — the wiring is field-replaceable without re-stripping or re-soldering.

Where the standard body fits vs L-shaped and T-shaped

The EE-SX67 family offers four body shapes for different mechanical layouts: standard (SX670), L-shaped (SX671), T-shaped with slot center 7 mm (SX672), and T-shaped with slot center 10 mm (SX674). The standard SX670 body is used where the sensor mounts to a flat bracket and the part passes through perpendicularly to the mounting surface — the most common configuration in feeder bowls, label applicators, and small parts counters. The L-shaped SX671 turns 90° to fit where depth is constrained.

Connector harness family and pre-wired option

The EE-SX670 (this SKU) terminates in an Omron EE-1001-style connector on the rear. Use the EE-1001 harness for a 1 m pre-wired lead — the harness has four colour-coded wires: brown = +V (5 to 24 VDC), blue = 0 V, black = output (NPN open collector), and pink/orange = L/D (Light-ON / Dark-ON select — leave open for Light-ON, tie to 0 V for Dark-ON). For other lengths: EE-1001 (1 m), EE-1001-1 (500 mm). For a pre-wired integral cable, skip the connector and order the EE-SX670-WR or EE-SX670-WR 1M which have the cable moulded in.

FAQ for EE-SX670

What's the difference between the EE-SX670 and the EE-SX670-WR?
The SX670 (this SKU) has a connector system on the rear that mates with the EE-1001 (1 m) or EE-1001-1 (500 mm) harness. The SX670-WR has a 1 m PVC cable moulded directly into the housing with the same colour code. Pick the SX670 + EE-1001 when the cable route has a service loop or a kink point where you want the option to unplug the sensor without cutting the cable.
Can the EE-SX670 drive a relay coil directly?
Yes. The NPN output sinks up to 100 mA at 30 VDC, so it can drive small 24 VDC relay coils (G2R-1-S DC24 for example) or 24 VDC indicators directly. With the G2R-1-S-DC24 coil, the 24 VDC supply goes to the brown wire, blue to 0 V, and black to the relay coil positive (negative to 0 V).
How do I select Dark-ON vs Light-ON on the EE-SX670?
Use the pink (or orange, depending on harness revision) wire on the EE-1001 harness. Leaving the wire open (not connected) selects Light-ON — the output transistor is ON when the slot is clear and turns OFF when a part enters the slot. Tie the wire to 0 V (blue) to select Dark-ON — output is OFF when clear and ON when a part enters.
What's the smallest part the EE-SX670 can detect?
0.5 mm opaque material at high speed (sub-millisecond response) — but for reliable 5 ms response in industrial conditions target at least 1.4 × 5 mm opaque material. Translucent or thin coloured objects may need the EE-SX670-P (PNP with stronger IR drive) or the EE-SX970 visible-red LED slot sensor which can see red and amber translucent targets.
