The EE-SX672-WR is the pre-wired (-WR) variant of the T-shaped 5mm slot sensor in Omron's EE-SX47/67 photomicrosensor family. The '672' code identifies the T-shaped form factor with 7mm slot center; the '-WR' suffix means 1m pre-wired cable (without -WR, the part is connector-type and needs a separate connector cable). A slot sensor is the simplest photoelectric principle: an infrared LED on one side of the slot, a phototransistor on the other, and the target passes through the gap. When the beam is broken, the output switches. This makes slot sensors ideal for edge detection, end-of-stroke confirmation, and high-speed part counting — anywhere the target passes through a defined gap. The 5mm slot is the most common size for small parts (leads, pins, labels on cards). The 'T-shape' designation is mechanical: the LED and phototransistor are mounted in a vertical column with a horizontal slot through the middle. Compare to the L-shaped (EE-SX671 series) which is wider and flatter, useful when the target travels along a horizontal plane. For deeper mounting with 7mm slot center, T-shape is the right pick. The 10mm slot center (EE-SX675) is for larger objects. On the wiring side, the EE-SX672-WR has 4 leads: brown (5-24 VDC), blue (0V), black (output), and red/white (Light-ON/Dark-ON selector). The 5-24 VDC supply range is the standard for industrial controls — works with 5V logic, 12V automotive, and 24V industrial. The 100mA NPN open-collector output sinks current to 0V; use it with a PLC input wired for sinking (most modern PLCs, including Omron CP1/CJ2/NX series, accept sinking input by default). Sensitivity is fixed (no adjustment potentiometer or teach button on this model). The sensor is tuned at the factory for the 5mm slot with 2×0.8mm min. opaque object. For applications where the target is variable (different sizes, translucent materials), look at the E3X-NA fiber amplifier family which has adjustable sensitivity. What's the difference between EE-SX672-WR and EE-SX672?
EE-SX672 is the connector type (no cable included); EE-SX672-WR is pre-wired with 1m cable. Choose -WR when you want to plug the sensor directly into a mating connector at the panel; choose the bare EE-SX672 when you need a custom cable length (3m, 5m, or robotic-flex cable) and the connector EE-1006 (sold separately).
Can I use EE-SX672-WR with a PNP-input PLC?
Not directly — the EE-SX672-WR is NPN output (sinks current to 0V when active). For PNP input PLCs, use the EE-SX672P-WR (PNP open-collector) or EE-SX672PR-WR (PNP with Light-ON/Dark-ON selector). Same physical size, same 5mm slot, just opposite output polarity.
What does the A suffix mean (EE-SX672A-WR)?
A = Light-ON default (output active when beam is unbroken). The plain EE-SX672-WR is Dark-ON (output active when beam is broken). You can override the mode via the selector wire — the A and R suffix variants just lock in the default for installations where the installer doesn't need to flip modes.
What's the smallest object this sensor can detect?
2 × 0.8 mm min. opaque object. Anything smaller (a wire, a thin tab) may pass without breaking the beam reliably. For detecting sub-millimeter objects, look at the E3S-AR36 retro-reflective sensor or the E3X-NA fiber amplifier with a thin fiber head.
