Product Overview
The EE-SX672-WR is the pre-wired (-WR) variant of the T-shaped 5mm slot sensor in Omron's EE-SX47/67 photomicrosensor family. The '672' code identifies the T-shaped form factor with 7mm slot center; the '-WR' suffix means 1m pre-wired cable (without -WR, the part is connector-type and needs a separate connector cable). A slot sensor is the simplest photoelectric principle: an infrared LED on one side of the slot, a phototransistor on the other, and the target passes through the gap. When the beam is broken, the output switches. This makes slot sensors ideal for edge detection, end-of-stroke confirmation, and high-speed part counting — anywhere the target passes through a defined gap. The 5mm slot is the most common size for small parts (leads, pins, labels on cards). The 'T-shape' designation is mechanical: the LED and phototransistor are mounted in a vertical column with a horizontal slot through the middle. Compare to the L-shaped (EE-SX671 series) which is wider and flatter, useful when the target travels along a horizontal plane. For deeper mounting with 7mm slot center, T-shape is the right pick. The 10mm slot center (EE-SX675) is for larger objects. On the wiring side, the EE-SX672-WR has 4 leads: brown (5-24 VDC), blue (0V), black (output), and red/white (Light-ON/Dark-ON selector). The 5-24 VDC supply range is the standard for industrial controls — works with 5V logic, 12V automotive, and 24V industrial. The 100mA NPN open-collector output sinks current to 0V; use it with a PLC input wired for sinking (most modern PLCs, including Omron CP1/CJ2/NX series, accept sinking input by default). Sensitivity is fixed (no adjustment potentiometer or teach button on this model). The sensor is tuned at the factory for the 5mm slot with 2×0.8mm min. opaque object. For applications where the target is variable (different sizes, translucent materials), look at the E3X-NA fiber amplifier family which has adjustable sensitivity. The slot sensor's advantage over a separate LED+phototransistor pair is that the alignment is factory-set — no optics to align in the field.
