Product Overview

The EE-SX672 is the T-shaped variant of Omron's EE-SX67 family of slot-type photomicrosensors, with a 5 mm slot width centred 7 mm from the mounting face. It uses an infrared through-beam pair — emitter and receiver face each other across the slot — so any opaque object passing through the gap breaks the beam and switches the output. The T-shaped body lets the sensor overhang the edge of a mechanism, useful when the actuator flag passes close to the mounting surface and a standard L-shaped or inline body would collide with the linkage.

Where this SKU fits in the EE-SX67 lineup

The EE-SX67 family splits along three axes: slot width, slot-centre distance, and shape. Within the 5 mm slot-width tier you have EE-SX670 (standard straight body), EE-SX671 (L-shape, slot center 7 mm), EE-SX672 (T-shape, slot center 7 mm, this SKU), and EE-SX673 (close-mounting variant for tight pitch). The 10 mm slot-centre variants are EE-SX674 and EE-SX675. On the output axis: the plain EE-SX672 is NPN with Dark-ON/Light-ON selectable; the -A suffix is Light-ON fixed; the -R suffix is Dark-ON fixed; the -P suffix is PNP selectable.

Wiring and the EE-1001 connector

The connector version requires the Omron EE-1001 (or EE-1001-1, with L-terminal shorted to positive for fixed Light-ON) connector with cable. Standard harness lengths are 1 m and 2 m; a robotic-flex cable version EE-1010-R is available for cable-track installations. Pin assignments: brown = Vcc (5 to 24 VDC), black = output, blue = 0 V, and the white L terminal selects Dark-ON (leave open) or Light-ON (tie to Vcc). Supply range is 5 to 24 VDC ± 10%; the sensor draws about 15 mA. The output transistor sinks up to 100 mA at 30 VDC, enough to drive a PLC input, a small relay coil, or a counter directly.

Application in a packaging or assembly line

The most common application for the EE-SX672 is end-of-stroke detection on a small pneumatic slide — a flag attached to the moving part passes through the 5 mm slot and gives a clean position pulse to the PLC without contact wear. It is also used for counting small parts on a feeder bowl: parts drop one at a time through the slot, each one producing a count pulse. On a label applicator, the label web passes through the slot and the sensor detects the gap between labels.

Key Features

  • T-shaped body with 5 mm slot width and 7 mm slot centre distance
  • Through-beam infrared sensing, 0.17 ms response time
  • NPN open-collector output, 100 mA at 30 VDC switching capacity
  • Dark-ON / Light-ON selectable via the L terminal
  • 5 to 24 VDC ± 10% supply, ~15 mA current draw
  • EE-1001 connector with cable harness required
  • PBT housing, IP50 protection, weight ~2.4 g
  • Slot depth 9 mm, body ~13.7 × 26 × 10.8 mm
  • SKU: EE-SX672
  • Series: EE-SX67
  • Voltage: 5 TO 24 VDC

Best-Fit Applications

  • End-of-stroke detection on a small pneumatic slide in a pick-and-place station
  • Counting small parts as they drop one-by-one through the slot on a vibratory feeder
  • Label-web gap detection on a labelling machine — flag missing means label missing
  • Index-drum position pulse on a rotary indexing table in an assembly line

Buying Checklist

  • Pick EE-SX672 when you need a 5 mm slot in a T-shape with NPN selectable output
  • Pick EE-SX672-WR 1M if you want a 1 m pre-attached cable instead of buying the EE-1001 connector separately
  • Pick EE-SX672A or EE-SX672R if you do not want to use the L terminal and reduce wiring risk
  • Pick EE-SX674 when the flag path is wider than 7 mm and the T overhang is not needed
  • Order EE-1001 connector with cable separately — the sensor ships without a harness
  • For washdown environments, switch to the IP67/IP69K E3Z-T61 in an M8 connector body

FAQ for EE-SX672

What is the difference between EE-SX672 and EE-SX672-WR?
The plain EE-SX672 is the connector model — it requires an Omron EE-1001 connector with cable (sold separately, available in 1 m and 2 m lengths). The EE-SX672-WR ships with a 1 m pre-attached cable, so no extra connector is needed. Both have the same T-shaped body, 5 mm slot, NPN selectable output, 0.17 ms response, and IP50 housing.
How do I select Dark-ON or Light-ON on the EE-SX672?
The sensor has a fourth white 'L' terminal that toggles the operation mode. Leave the L terminal open for Dark-ON (output transistor turns ON when the beam is interrupted). Connect L to Vcc (+5 to +24 VDC) for Light-ON (output transistor turns ON when the beam reaches the receiver uninterrupted). The Omron EE-1001-1 connector has the L terminal shorted to the brown Vcc wire internally, giving fixed Light-ON without an extra wire.
What is the difference between EE-SX670, EE-SX671, EE-SX672, EE-SX673, and EE-SX674?
All are 5 mm slot-width slot sensors in the EE-SX67 family. EE-SX670 is the standard straight body. EE-SX671 is L-shaped with slot center 7 mm. EE-SX672 is T-shaped with slot center 7 mm. EE-SX673 is the close-mounting variant for tight sensor pitch. EE-SX674 is T-shaped with slot center 10 mm (deeper flag path). Pick the shape that fits your mechanical layout and the slot-centre distance that matches your flag travel.
Can the EE-SX672 be used outdoors or in washdown?
No — the EE-SX672 is IP50, meaning it is dust-protected but not sealed against water jets or immersion. For outdoor installations, food-processing washdown, or any environment where water splashes on the sensor, move to a sealed IP67/IP69K family such as the E3Z-T61 (M8 connector body) or the EE-SX67-WR1A sealed-cable variants. The EE-SX672 is for indoor dry panels.
