Product Overview
The G9SE-201 is the 2-safety-output model in Omron's G9SE safety relay family. It's used as the safety logic device in Category 4 / PLe (per ISO 13849-1) and SIL3 (per IEC 62061) emergency-stop and guard-door interlock circuits. The '201' code breaks down as: 2 = 2 safety outputs, 0 = no OFF-delay, 1 = standard series. Compare to G9SE-401 (4 safety outputs) and G9SE-221 (2 outputs with OFF-delay). In a typical safety circuit, the G9SE-201 sits between the safety input devices (e-stop button, guard-door interlock switch, safety light curtain) and the downstream contactors or variable frequency drives that need to be cut off in an emergency. When both safety inputs (T12 and T22) are HIGH (i.e., the e-stop is not pressed and the guard is closed), the safety outputs (terminals 13-14 and 23-24) close and the machine runs. When either input goes LOW (e-stop pressed or guard opened), the outputs open within 15ms, breaking the holding current to the contactors and stopping the machine. The G9SE-201 supports two wiring modes: - 1-channel safety input: both T12 and T22 tied together, used for simple e-stop circuits. This gives Category 1 / PLc only — single-fault tolerant. - 2-channel safety input: T12 and T22 are separate, typically wired to a 2-N/C contact e-stop or a magnetic-coded safety switch. This is the standard for Category 4 / PLe and SIL3 — dual-fault tolerant. For Category 4 / PLe, you also need the EDM (External Device Monitoring) feedback loop from the downstream contactors. Wire the N/C auxiliary contacts of the contactors back to the G9SE's T31/T32 feedback input. The G9SE checks that the contactors actually de-energised within the expected time. If the contactors fail to drop out (welded contact), the G9SE locks out and prevents re-starting until the fault is cleared. On the wiring side, the G9SE-201 uses Push-In Plus terminals — no screwdriver, no torque wrench. Strip 8mm of insulation, push the wire in. To release, press the orange release button with a flat-blade screwdriver or a 2.5mm test pin. The terminals accept solid wire, stranded with ferrules, or even bare stranded if you're careful. The 17.5mm width and 100mm height make the G9SE-201 the most compact PLe safety relay in Omron's line. For comparison, the G9SA is older technology in a 17.5mm package but only Category 4 with screw terminals; the G9SB is similar but with slightly different terminal layout. For new designs, the G9SE is the recommended pick — Push-In terminals save wiring time, and the LED indicators make troubleshooting faster.
