Product Overview

The R88M-1M20030H-S2 is the 200 W high-inertia member of Omron's 1S-series servo family — a 60 mm flange-face, 11 mm shaft, 23-bit incremental encoder servo motor purpose-built for belt-driven conveyors, ball-screw stages, and other loads with significant reflected inertia. The 'H' suffix in R88M-1M20030H vs 'T' suffix in R88M-1M20030T distinguishes high-inertia from low-inertia: this SKU (H) carries roughly 2× the rotor inertia, which smooths out step-and-direction motion and provides better rejection of low-frequency load disturbances. The encoder is a 23-bit (8,388,608 pulse/rev) optical incremental unit — a battery-less absolute version would have a 'C' suffix (R88M-1M20030C-S2). The 'S2' suffix means the motor has no brake and no oil seal.

When to pick high inertia vs low inertia

The H/T split is one of the most important choices in the 1S family. High inertia (H, this SKU) is best for: belt-driven conveyors, ball-screw stages with ballscrew inertia, large-diameter rotary tables, and any application where the load inertia exceeds the motor's rotor inertia. The additional rotor mass on the H variant acts as a mechanical low-pass filter on torque ripple, giving smoother motion at low speeds. Low inertia (T, R88M-1M20030T-S2) is best for: chip-mount machines (pick-and-place), small direct-drive stages, and rapid short-stroke cycling where peak acceleration matters more than steady-state smoothness.

1S-series advantages vs G5 predecessor

The 1S (R88M-1M) family replaced the G5 (R88M-K) family in 2021 as the workhorse compact servo line.

Key Features

  • 200 W rated output, 230 VAC single-phase supply
  • 0.637 Nm rated torque, 2.2 Nm peak torque
  • 3 000 rpm rated speed, 5 000 rpm maximum mechanical speed
  • 23-bit incremental encoder on this SKU
  • High-inertia rotor — ideal for belt-driven conveyors and ball-screw loads
  • 60 mm flange face, 11 mm shaft diameter, with keyway option
  • Pairs with R88D-1SN02H-ECT 1S-series EtherCAT drive
  • STO PL d via FSoE when paired with the 1S EtherCAT drive
  • SKU: R88M-1M20030H-S2
  • Series: R88M-1M (1S-series servo motor family)
  • Voltage: 230 V
  • I/O: 200 I/O

Best-Fit Applications

  • Belt-driven conveyor tracking — high-inertia rotor smooths indexing motion at 1–2 kg load inertia
  • Ball-screw staging on small-format CNC lathes where load inertia is comparable to rotor inertia
  • Pick-and-place Z-axis on chip mounters where short-stroke peak acceleration is needed and a holding brake is required
  • Inline labeler drive for product orientation and feed-roller positioning on packaging lines

Buying Checklist

  • Pick the R88M-1M20030H-S2 when the load inertia is comparable to or greater than the motor rotor inertia — the high-inertia rotor smooths step-and-direction motion
  • Pick the R88M-1M20030T-S2 when the load inertia is low and peak acceleration is the bottleneck
  • Pick the R88M-1M20030C-S2 when the application needs absolute multi-turn position
  • Pick the R88M-1M20030H-BS2 for any vertical axis where the load must not free-fall on power removal
  • Pick the R88M-1M20030H-S2-Z for Simulink-compatible drive profiles
  • Pick the R88M-1L1K030H-S2 if the application needs 1 kW instead of 200 W

FAQ for R88M-1M20030H-S2

What's the difference between the R88M-1M20030H-S2 and the T-suffix variant?
Both are 200 W EtherCAT 1S servo motors, but the rotor inertia differs — the H (high inertia) variant has roughly 2× the rotor inertia of the T (low inertia) variant. The H variant smooths step-and-direction motion and reduces low-frequency load-disturbance amplification — best for belt-driven conveyors, ball-screw stages, and any application where load inertia approaches rotor inertia. The T variant accelerates faster from standstill and reverses faster — best for chip mount and short-stroke machine axes.
What drive does this motor pair with?
The R88D-1SN02H-ECT — 1S-series 200 W EtherCAT drive, single-phase 230 VAC input. The drive handles the motor's 0.637 Nm continuous torque and 2.2 Nm peak torque at 3000 rpm. For servo systems that need Simulink-compatible drive profiles for model-based design, use the R88D-1SN02H-ECT-Z variant (-Z suffix = Simulink profile). For STO safety, the drive supports FSoE STO PL d via EtherCAT when wired through an NX-SL5500 safety controller.
What cables do I need to order with the motor?
Two cables are mandatory: (1) the power cable — R88A-CRGB001-5-E1R for 1 m, or longer for longer distances. (2) the encoder cable — R88A-CRGBE001-5-E1R for 1 m, or longer. The bare motor (this SKU) does not include cables — Omron sells the cable separately to avoid useless stocking of wrong-length cables. For the brake option -BS2 you also need the R88A-CRGB-RA-LEP brake lead. For washdown / oil-mist environments upgrade to the -5B1 (IP67 robot cable) version of each cable.
Can I use this motor with an Accurax G5 drive instead of a 1S drive?
No — the 1S (R88M-1M) and G5 (R88M-K) servo motors use different encoder protocols and different winding designs. The 1S requires an R88D-1S or R88D-1S@-ECT drive; pairing a 1S motor with a G5 drive will not synchronise the encoder and the drive will report a 'motor type mismatch' fault at commissioning. Similarly, do not pair a G5 motor (e.g. R88M-K20030H-S2) with a 1S drive.
