Product Overview
The R88D-1SN02H-ECT is the 200W variant in Omron's 1S-series servo drive line — the current generation (2018+) that replaced the Accurax G5 and earlier Sigma lines. The model code breaks down as: R88D = drive, 1S = 1S-series, N = battery-less absolute encoder, 02 = 200W, H = single-phase 200 VAC input, ECT = EtherCAT interface. The 1S series' main advantage over the older Accurax G5 is integrated safety: STO (Safe Torque Off), SS1 (Safe Stop 1), and SLS (Safe Limited Speed) all run over EtherCAT via FSoE (Fail Safe over EtherCAT), eliminating the need for separate safety wiring and safety contactors. The drive achieves PLd per EN ISO 13849-1, which is sufficient for most machine guarding applications (the next step up, PLe, requires additional external monitoring). The 23-bit battery-less absolute encoder is the other big improvement. Older servo systems needed battery backup to retain absolute position across power cycles; the 1S uses a multi-turn absolute encoder with electronic counter — no battery, no scheduled replacement, no position-loss on battery failure. The encoder gives 8,388,608 counts per revolution (23-bit) for sub-arc-minute positioning accuracy. On the connectivity side, the 1S is EtherCAT-only. For non-EtherCAT applications (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, analog pulse), the 1S is not the right pick — use the G5 series (R88D-KN) instead. For pure EtherCAT systems with an NJ501 or NX102 master, the 1S is the recommended servo. EtherCAT cycle time is 125 µs minimum, supporting high-speed coordinated motion across multiple axes. For demanding multi-axis applications (packaging, semiconductor, printing), 125 µs gives smoother motion than the typical 250 or 500 µs of older systems. The cycle time is set on the master and applies to all 1S drives on the network. Wiring uses Push-In Plus terminals throughout — no screws, no torque wrench. Strip 10mm of insulation, push the wire in. To release, press the orange button. Saves 30-50% panel build time vs screw-type servo drives. The 1S also has pluggable connectors for power, motor, and I/O — you can pre-wire the panel with the drive disconnected, then plug in the drive at commissioning. On the motor side, the R88D-1SN02H-ECT drives any R88M-1M or R88M-1L series 200W servo motor. The '1M' is medium-inertia (good general-purpose), the '1L' is low-inertia (high-speed, low-load inertia applications). The motor and drive are auto-recognised via electronic nameplate when connected via EtherCAT. Common use: precision positioning on packaging lines, label applicators, filling machines, electronic assembly, pick-and-place systems. The integrated EtherCAT safety is the key differentiator for machines that need SIL2/PLd stopping without external safety relays.
