Product Overview

The Omron Z-15GQ55-B is a 15 A general-purpose basic switch in the Z-15G family, built around a panel-mount body and an "overtravel" plunger — the same mechanical snap-action mechanism as the rest of the Z-15G line, but with extra plunger travel for cam-actuated applications.

Where the 55 suffix matters

On the Z-15G, the prefix G means "general-purpose" and the letter Q means "panel-mount plunger". The "55" suffix specifies the overtravel plunger variant: 1.8 mm pretravel and 5.5 mm overtravel, well beyond the Q plunger's 1.6 mm. Pick it when a moving cam will over-travel the operating point. If you want a stock panel-mount plunger, choose Z-15GQ-B (no "55").

Why choose the overtravel plunger

Standard snap-action switches need the actuator to retract cleanly, or the contacts stay made and the mechanism is held in the operated state. The Z-15GQ55-B's 5.5 mm overtravel lets a cam pass the operating point without bottoming out the plunger into the housing. The 0.05 mm differential travel gives repeatable switching even with worn cams.

Before ordering

Confirm the contact gap you need: "G" (0.5 mm) handles 15 A loads; "H" (0.25 mm) is for higher sensitivity. The terminal torque for the M3.5 screw is 0.4–0.6 N·m. Pair it with a stainless plunger boot if the switch is in a washdown zone — the Z-15GQ55-B body itself is IP00.

Key Features

  • Z-15G general-purpose basic switch, panel-mount body
  • Overtravel plunger: 1.8 mm pretravel, 5.5 mm overtravel
  • SPDT snap-action (On-Mom) with 0.05 mm differential travel
  • 15 A resistive at 125 / 250 VAC; 0.5 A at 125 VDC
  • Operating force approx. 5.3 N (540 gf); release force 1.12 N (114 gf)
  • Standard 0.5 mm contact gap ("G" series)
  • Screw terminals (M3.5) on panel-mount face
  • Mechanical life 10 million operations minimum
  • SKU: Z-15GQ55-B
  • Series: Z-15G general-purpose basic switch

Best-Fit Applications

  • Position detection on cam-actuated packaging and assembly machinery
  • End-of-travel limit on sliding doors, guards, and transfer arms
  • Trigger signal on conveyor diverter arms
  • Index pulse on rotating wheels and indexing dials
  • Door-interlock feedback on non-safety equipment enclosures

Buying Checklist

  • Choose Z-15GQ55-B when the cam needs extra overtravel past the operating point.
  • Choose Z-15GQ-B for a standard panel-mount plunger without overtravel.
  • Choose Z-15GW2-B for a hinge roller-lever actuator for cam or angled approach.
  • Choose Z-15GK55-B for a slim spring-plunger body in the same overtravel family.
  • Pick the "H" contact gap suffix for higher sensitivity in low-force applications.
  • Match the contact gap ("G" = 0.5 mm for 15 A loads; "H" = 0.25 mm for sensitivity).

FAQ for Z-15GQ55-B

What is the difference between Z-15GQ and Z-15GQ55?
Z-15GQ is a standard panel-mount plunger with ~1.6 mm overtravel; Z-15GQ55 is the overtravel-plunger variant with 5.5 mm overtravel for cam-actuated mechanisms. Pick the 55 when the cam sweeps past the operating point.
Can Z-15GQ55-B drive a small motor directly?
Yes, within the motor rating: 1/3 HP at 125 VAC, 1/4 HP at 250 VAC. For repetitive motor switching a contactor is the better choice — a basic switch's contact life is specified for resistive loads and will shorten under inductive motor inrush.
What torque and wire size for the screw terminals?
M3.5 screw terminals: torque 0.4 to 0.6 N·m. Wire 18 to 14 AWG solid or stranded, use ferrules on stranded wire for a reliable connection.
