Product Overview

The Omron 3G3MX2-AB002-V2 is the smallest single-phase 200 V inverter in the MX2 V2 family, rated 0.2 kW heavy-duty / 0.4 kW light-duty for tiny motors on packaging, water-treatment, or laboratory equipment. The AB suffix is single-phase 200 V input only; the A2 suffix is the three-phase 200 V sibling, and A4 is the three-phase 400 V line. Mixing these up is a common procurement error - the AB models accept no three-phase supply. The V2 option slot accepts field-replaceable EtherCAT, CompoNet, DeviceNet, or MECHATROLINK-II cards. Pick the 3G3MX2-AB002-V2 when the cabinet has only a single-phase 200 V feed and the motor is small.

Why the AB family exists

Most industrial inverters run on three-phase 200 V. Small shops, OEM skid builders, and rural sites often have only single-phase 200 V available. The AB family accepts that single-phase input, internally rectifies to DC, and synthesises a three-phase output to drive a standard three-phase induction or PM motor. Same control algorithm as the A2 - sensorless vector with 200 % starting torque at 0.5 Hz - plus the V2 option slot, the built-in RS-485 Modbus port, and the front USB programming port. The AB range tops out at 2.2 kW.

HD vs LD rating and what to size for

MX2 inverters carry two power ratings: heavy-duty (CT, 150 % overload for 1 minute) and light-duty (VT, 120 % overload for 1 minute). Stay at or below the 0.2 kW HD rating for continuous constant-torque loads like conveyors, mixers, and small extruders. The 0.4 kW LD rating only suits variable-torque loads (fans, centrifugal pumps) where the LD output current is well within the drive's rating.

Before ordering

Confirm the supply is single-phase 200-240 VAC, NOT three-phase - the AB family will not start on three-phase input. Wire L1 and L2 (or L1 and N) to the input terminal block, T1/T2/T3 to the three-phase motor. Set A1-01 to sensorless vector and A1-02 to heavy-duty for rated torque. Use the front USB port and CX-Drive to back up parameters before commissioning.

Best-Fit Applications

  • Small three-phase motor speed control in a single-phase 200 V cabinet (conveyor, pump, fan).
  • OEM skid or pump package where the site only supplies 200 VAC single-phase power.
  • Packaging or laboratory machine where motor power fits in 0.2 kW HD or 0.4 kW LD.
  • Replacement for an aging 3G3MV or 3G3JX drive needing sensorless vector control with high torque.
  • Adding EtherCAT or DeviceNet to an existing cabinet via the V2 option slot.

Buying Checklist

  • Confirm the supply is single-phase 200-240 VAC - the AB family will not start on three-phase input.
  • Choose 3G3MX2-AB004-V2 (0.4 kW HD) when the motor is larger - same form factor and supply.
  • Choose 3G3MX2-AB007-V2 when stepping up to 0.75 kW HD on the same single-phase 200 V supply.
  • Choose a 3G3AX-MX2-ECT EtherCAT card if the AB drives go on a Sysmac NJ or NX1P network.
  • Verify the motor current fits within 1.6 A HD - if it exceeds, step up to 3G3MX2-AB004.
  • Allow for ventilation space above and below the drive - the smallest MX2 V2 models rely on natural convection.

FAQ for 3G3MX2-AB002-V2

Is the 3G3MX2-AB002-V2 single-phase or three-phase 200 V input?
Single-phase 200-240 VAC only. The AB suffix in the MX2 family always marks single-phase 200 V. The three-phase 200 V sibling in the V2 series is the 3G3MX2-A2002. Wiring three-phase input to the AB family will fault or refuse to start - this is a common mix-up at procurement.
Can I add EtherCAT to the 3G3MX2-AB002-V2 after purchase?
Yes. Slide the 3G3AX-MX2-ECT EtherCAT card into the V2 option slot on the front face of the drive - field-replaceable with the drive powered off. The card draws power from the drive internal supply, so no separate 24 VDC source is needed. The Sysmac Studio on the host NJ or NX1P auto-discovers the drive once the Omron-supplied ESI file is loaded.
Does the Safe Torque Off give full electrical isolation?
No. STO removes drive output to the motor but does not disconnect power at the input terminals. The MX2 STO meets ISO 13849-1 PLd Cat 3 with two-channel wiring for functional safety stops. For service lock-out, you must open the upstream disconnect or contactor as well. Use STO for machinery-cycle stops; use a disconnector for maintenance lock-out.
