Product Overview

The Omron 3G3MX2-AB015-V2 sits in the middle of the AB single-phase 200 V family. It takes single-phase 200-240 VAC from a domestic-style supply and puts out three-phase 200 to 240 VAC to drive a standard induction or PM motor up to 1.5 kW on heavy-duty (constant torque / CT) duty or 2.2 kW on light-duty (variable torque / VT) duty. The V2 in the part code adds the EtherCAT option slot on top of the standard Modbus RTU + USB on board.

Where it fits

Pick the AB015 when a 1.5 kW machine is fed from a single-phase 230 VAC cabinet supply (common in retrofit machinery, packaging cells, small pumps, and fans that were wired from a single-phase service line). Smaller AB002 / AB004 / AB007 models cover 0.1 to 0.75 kW. The AB022 covers 2.2 kW. For 400 V three-phase cabinets pick the A4 family instead -- 3G3MX2-A4015 for 1.5 kW three-phase 400 V. Single-phase AB drives stop at 2.2 kW.

Why the V2 suffix matters

The base 3G3MX2-AB015 (V1) carries Modbus RTU on the RJ-45 plus a USB CX-Drive port -- enough for any Modbus-driven machine but not for a Sysmac or PC-based high-speed network. The -V2 version adds a front card slot for EtherCAT / CompoNet / DeviceNet / MECHATROLINK-II / PROFINET, so the same inverter ships to a Modbus cabinet AND to an EtherCAT machine by adding one option card. The card installs on the front without opening the inverter, and CX-Drive configures it on the same CX-One / Sysmac Studio.

Before ordering

Confirm the supply is single-phase 200-240 VAC. Three-phase 200 V supply requires an A2 drive, not AB. Decide whether the load is constant-torque (1.5 kW, 150% overload 60 s) or variable-torque (2.2 kW, 120% overload 60 s); the CT/VT selector changes both the rating and the safe operating area. Add a brake resistor on the B1 / B2 terminals for any overhauling load (vertical axis, inertial fan, fast-stop duty).

Best-Fit Applications

  • Single-phase 230 V retrofit machines driving a 1.5 kW conveyor / mixer / pump motor
  • Packaging and small bottling lines fed from a single-phase domestic-style service panel
  • OEM machines that need the same drive to ship as Modbus and as EtherCAT (V2 option slot)
  • Vertical or fast-stop loads with an external brake resistor on B1 / B2
  • Fan and blower control on variable-torque (VT) loads up to 2.2 kW

Buying Checklist

  • Pick 3G3MX2-AB015-V2 for 1.5 kW on single-phase 200-240 V with the EtherCAT option slot open.
  • Pick 3G3MX2-AB007-V2 for 0.75 kW on the same single-phase 200 V supply when 1.5 kW is more than the load needs.
  • Pick 3G3MX2-AB022-V2 when the load is up to 2.2 kW on the same single-phase supply.
  • Pick 3G3MX2-A4015-V2 when the cabinet is three-phase 400 V instead of single-phase 200 V.
  • Pick the 3G3MX2-AB015 (V1) when the cabinet only uses Modbus RTU and the EtherCAT slot is unnecessary.
  • Add the 3G3AX-MX2-ECT EtherCAT option card to the V2 slot to expose the drive as an ETG.102 slave.
  • Pair the inverter with a brake resistor (sold separately) for any overhauling load.

FAQ for 3G3MX2-AB015-V2

Can the 3G3MX2-AB015-V2 run on three-phase 200 V?
No. The AB family is single-phase 200-240 VAC input only. Three-phase 200 V is the A2 family (3G3MX2-A2015, A2022, etc.). When the cabinet is three-phase, pick the A2 or A4 model -- wiring an AB drive to three-phase input will damage the rectifier.
What does the V2 in 3G3MX2-AB015-V2 add over the V1?
The V2 adds a front option-card slot for EtherCAT, CompoNet, DeviceNet, MECHATROLINK-II, or PROFINET communication cards. The base Modbus RTU + USB CX-Drive port are present on both V1 and V2. Pick V2 when the drive needs to live on a high-speed fieldbus (an EtherCAT NJ machine, a CompoNet cable, a DeviceNet panel) and add the matching 3G3AX-MX2 option card at order or in the field.
How much starting torque does the AB015 deliver?
200% of rated torque at 0.5 Hz in sensorless vector mode. That covers most conveyor / mixer / fan starting under load without needing an encoder on the motor. For closed-loop torque or position control with an encoder, step up to the Accurax G5 servo (R88D-KN / R88M-K) instead -- the MX2 is an inverter, not a servo.
Does the inverter include a brake resistor?
No. The AB015 includes the brake transistor on B1 / B2 inside the inverter; the resistor itself is sold separately (Omron's 3G3AX-RBC series). Without the resistor the drive still runs, but it cannot decelerate an overhauling load -- a vertical axis or a fast-stop duty must have the resistor fitted to B1 / B2 and to P/+.
