The Omron CJ1W-AD081-V1 is an 8-channel analog input unit for the CJ-series PLC rack, used with CJ1, CJ1M, CJ2, and NJ-series CPUs that accept CJ1W expansion. Each channel has its own signal range, settable individually from 1-5 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, -10 to +10 V, or 4-20 mA, with a resolution of 1/8000 (selectable to 1/4000). Conversion runs at 250 microseconds per point. Voltage channels read to plus or minus 0.2 % of full scale; current channels to plus or minus 0.4 %. The unit fits a standard CJ1W slot, draws 580 mA from the 5 V rack supply, and lands on a detachable 18-point terminal block. Why 8 channels instead of 4

The CJ1W-AD041-V1 covers 4 analog inputs at the same 1/8000 resolution, while the CJ1W-AD081-V1 doubles that to 8 channels on the same 31 mm wide slice. For machines that need eight or fewer points, the AD081 saves the second slot and one set of terminal blocks. For higher-speed work, the CJ1W-AD042 offers a 20 microsecond direct conversion, but at 4 channels and a different resolution setting.

Scaling and wiring

Each channel can be scaled in the CPU memory to engineering units (bar, deg C, L/min), and the detachable terminal block makes signal re-wiring fast on commissioning day. For 4-20 mA loops, fit a 250 ohm resistor across the input terminals to convert to 1-5 V if the PLC expects a voltage signal. Use shielded twisted-pair cable and ground the shield at the panel end only.

Before ordering

Confirm the rack has a free slot to the right of the CPU. The AD081-V1 draws 580 mA from the 5 VDC rack supply, so check the CJ1W-PA202 / PA205R rating. For 4-20 mA current loops, decide between wiring the input as current (default) or converting to 1-5 V with an external resistor. Pair with CX-Programmer for scaling and CX-Integrator for the NJ-series equivalent.
