Product Overview
The Omron CP1W-8ET is an 8-point NPN (current-sinking) transistor output expansion unit for the CP1W series. It bolts onto the right side of a CP1E / CP1L / CP1H / NSJ CPU via the flat CP1W-CN811 I/O connecting cable, adding 8 fast digital outputs to small cabinets that need a few more outputs than the CPU supplies. Each output switches a 4.5-26.4 VDC load at up to 0.3 A per point, with a 0.1 ms ON / 0.4 ms OFF response. Pick the 8ET when the PLC expects sinking inputs on the load side, the default for CP1E-N___DT-D and CP1L-M___DT-D CPUs.
Where it fits in the CP1W expansion lineup
The CP1W expansion line is split by point count and output type. CP1W-8ET is the 8-point NPN sink transistor output. CP1W-8ET1 is the PNP (current-sourcing) twin. CP1W-16ER is the 16-point relay output for mixed AC and 24 VDC loads. CP1W-20EDT / CP1W-40EDT mix 24 VDC inputs with 16 / 32 transistor outputs in a wider body. Pick the 8ET when you need a small sink-output block to add to an existing CP-series CPU.
Choosing sink (NPN) vs source (PNP)
The CP1W-8ET is NPN sinking output - the transistor pulls the load to 0 V while the load's other terminal goes to the positive DC rail. The CP1W-8ET1 PNP source output does the opposite - it sources the positive rail to the load while the load's other terminal returns to 0 V. Match the expansion to the CPU body - a DT (sink) or DT1 (source) CPU pairs with the same-polarity expansion. Mixing polarities requires careful common-rail wiring.
Before ordering
Confirm the CPU is a CP1E / CP1L / CP1H / NSJ or CPM2A with a free CP1W expansion port. If total load exceeds 1.6 A on the 8ET common, step to a wider 20EDT or 40EDT. Mount on a DIN-rail (TR35-15Fe IEC 60715). Wire the load to the removable M3 terminal block with 0.25 mm stranded wire and a ferrule. Connect the CP1W-CN811 cable, power on, and the 8 output points appear in CX-Programmer automatically.

Buying Checklist
- Confirm the CPU is a CP-series (CP1E / CP1L / CP1H / NSJ / CPM2A) with a free CP1W expansion port.
- Choose CP1W-8ET1 for PNP source output to match a DT1 (sourcing) CPU body polarity.
- Choose CP1W-16ER for 16-point relay outputs when the load is mixed AC mains and 24 VDC.
- Choose CP1W-20EDT when both extra inputs and 16 sink outputs are needed in one slot.
- Verify total load current per common stays below 1.6 A before adding more output points.
- Confirm the CP1W-CN811 connecting cable is on hand before installation.
