Product Overview

The Omron CP1W-DA021 adds two analog outputs to a CP1L, CP1H, or CP1E PLC. Pick it when a CP1 build needs to drive a variable-frequency drive, a proportional valve, or a panel meter with a 4-20 mA or 0-10 V command from ladder logic.

Each of the two channels (CIO 2 / CIO 3) takes its output range independently. Set per channel: 1-5 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, -10 to +10 V, or 4-20 mA (current sink). Resolution is 12-bit (1/4000 of full scale). D/A conversion runs in 1 ms or less per point; both channels are refreshed in about 5 ms total. Accuracy is plus or minus 0.3 percent of full scale on voltage outputs and plus or minus 0.5 percent on current outputs. Output hold keeps the last value on PLC error or run/stop transition.

The unit drops onto a CP1W expansion chain -- mount directly on the CPU or on a CP1W expansion I/O unit, right-hand side, using the 16-pin flat expansion cable. Connection to the field is via the removable screw-terminal block (M3.5, 0.5 Nm torque). VOUT1 / VOUT2 are the analog output pins; COM1 / COM2 are the common pins for current loops.

Setup is in CX-Programmer (PLC Setup -> Built-in I/O / Expansion I/O -> CP1W-DA021). Each channel's range, output hold, and scaling are set per channel without rebooting the CPU.

FAQ for CP1W-DA021

Does the CP1W-DA021 support both voltage and current output?
Yes, per channel independently. Each of the two channels (CIO 2 / CIO 3) can be set to 1-5 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, -10 to +10 V, or 4-20 mA via CX-Programmer PLC Setup. The field wiring follows the chosen range: VOUT1 / VOUT2 are the output pins, COM1 / COM2 are the commons for current-loop loops. Mixing one channel as voltage and the other as current on the same DA021 is allowed.
What resolution does the CP1W-DA021 give?
12-bit (1/4000) for both voltage and current outputs. At 0-10 V this is about 2.5 mV per step; at 4-20 mA this is about 4 uA per step. For higher resolution (up to 1/6000 or 1/16000), use the CJ1W-DA042V or NX-DA2603 / NX-DA3603 instead.
Can I add a CP1W-DA021 to a CP1L-EM30DT-D CPU?
Yes. Drop the DA021 to the right of the CPU or to the right of a CP1W-8E[] / 20ED[R/D/T] expansion unit. The 16-pin flat expansion cable carries the 5 VDC backplane and the analog signal bus. The CP1L-EM30DT-D supports up to three CP1W expansion units, so the DA021 plus one or two more (for example a CP1W-8ET + CP1W-AD041) all sit in the same chain.
Does the CP1W-DA021 hold its last value when the CPU stops?
Yes, if output hold is enabled in CX-Programmer PLC Setup (the H9 / H10 setting). On CPU error or RUN-to-STOP transition, the DA021 latches the last commanded value on each output. Disable output hold if you want the output to drop to 0 V / 0 mA on CPU stop (for fail-safe shutdown of a downstream valve or drive).
