Product Overview
The Omron D4SL-N4EFA-DN is the 4-contact model in the D4SL-N compact solenoid-locking safety-door switch family. The head accepts an operation key (D4SL-K1 / K2 / K3 / K5, sold separately) and the solenoid locks the key in place when the cabinet door is closed. The "A" suffix is the lock code: mechanical lock with solenoid RELEASE. The default state is LOCKED -- the door stays locked if power to the cabinet is lost, so operators cannot open the guard on a machine that has stopped but still has a hazardous flywheel or a capacitor bank to discharge.
Why the 4-contact model is the common pick
The 4-contact form (2NC/1NO door + 1NC/1NO lock monitor, all slow-action with certified direct opening on the NCs per EN 60947-5-1) is enough wiring for a Cat 3 / PL d dual-channel safety circuit -- one NC channel for the door position, one NC for the lock monitor, the NO for a non-safety monitor signal, and the remaining NC for redundancy. Step up to the 5-contact (3NC+2NC/1NO) or 6-contact (3NC+3NC) when the upstream safety controller (G9SA-301, G9SP-N20S) wants two channels per door for Cat 4 / PL e.
Why the A code vs the C code matters
Pick the A code (mechanical lock with solenoid release -- this SKU) when the door must stay locked during a power loss -- the standard pick for a vertical-spindle press, a robot cell, a hydraulic accumulator bank, a centrifuge, a high-inertia flywheel. Pick the C code (solenoid lock with mechanical release) instead when the door must UNLOCK during a power loss -- a fire-egress enclosure, a maintenance-only interlock where a trapped operator must be able to exit without mains power. The D4SL-N4EFA-DN does not unlock on power loss.
Before ordering
Order the operation key (D4SL-K1 for horizontal insertion, K2 for vertical, K3 for adjustable, K5 for angled) at the same time -- the switch is incomplete without it. Match the conduit to the cabinet -- the bare D4SL-N4EFA-B is Pg13.5, the -DN is M20 (this SKU), the -D4N is G1/2. Pair the switch with a G9SA-301, G9SP-N20S, or the equivalent safety controller for the dual-channel Cat 3 / PL d or Cat 4 / PL e circuit.

Best-Fit Applications
- Locking a guard door on a vertical-spindle press where the door must stay locked on power loss
- Robot-cell access interlock where the cell must remain closed during capacitor discharge
- Hydraulic-press guard door with Cat 3 / PL d dual-channel safety circuit
- High-inertia flywheel or centrifuge guard with hazardous coast-down time
- Locking interlock on a parts-load station where the door stays locked during the machine cycle
- Spare-card replacement on a D4SL-N panel with a failed switch and matching key already in service
Buying Checklist
- Pick D4SL-N4EFA-DN for the 4-contact D4SL-N with fail-safe LOCK on power loss (mechanical lock with solenoid release).
- Pick D4SL-N4CFA-DN instead when the door must UNLOCK on power loss (solenoid lock with mechanical release, fire-egress use).
- Pick the 5-contact D4SL-N5EFA-DN or 6-contact D4SL-N6EFA-DN when the upstream safety controller needs more channels for Cat 4 / PL e.
- Pick the metal-head D4SL-N4RFA-DN for higher impact environments (forging, stamping, foundry).
- Pick the G1/2 conduit D4SL-N4EFA-D4N for North-American cabinet threading, or the Pg13.5 D4SL-N4EFA-B for European cabinets.
- Order the operation key (D4SL-K1 / K2 / K3 / K5) at the same time -- the switch is incomplete without it.
- Pair the switch with a G9SA-301 / G9SP-N20S safety controller for the dual-channel Cat 3 / PL d or Cat 4 / PL e circuit.
