The Omron E3Z-LR81 is a compact laser retro-reflective photoelectric sensor from the E3Z-LR family, designed to detect objects that defeat a standard retro sensor — shiny foil labels, polished metal cans, glossy cartons, and small surface-mount components. manufactured by Omron Corporation. It uses a Class 1 visible red laser (660 nm), paired with a polarising MSR (Mirror-Surface Rejection) filter that ignores the specular reflection from a flat shiny surface and only registers the diffuse return from a reflector placed directly behind the target. E3Z-LR is the laser retro family.
For transparent bottles, switch to E3Z-B61 2M; for a clear-PET line, plain retro reflex cannot tell PET from air.

What is the actual sensing range, and what does 350 mm in the old listing mean?
The official range is 15 m with the standard E39-R1 reflector. Older stock listings quoting "350 mm" were confusing this SKU with the short-range diffuse E3Z-D8x series; the E3Z-LR81 has always been a long-range retro sensor. Use the E39-R1 reflector (5 mm spot at 3 m) for accurate aiming, or step up to the E39-R2 / E39-R6 reflector (200 mm spot) if the target is small or the alignment drifts.
Can the E3Z-LR81 see through a clear PET bottle?
No. The polarising M.S.R. filter rejects the double-refraction return from a transparent object, so a clear PET or clear glass bottle will not register reliably. For clear-bottle detection on a filling line, choose the E3Z-B61 2M clear-PET retro-reflective sensor.
Is the E3Z-LR81 a Class 1 or Class 2 laser product?
It is a Class 1 laser product, the safest classification — no laser safety eyewear or protective enclosure is required under normal use. Eye-safe even through optics within the beam for short-duration exposure.
